Chapter 256 

Lily’s heart almost melted from Maryanne’s affection. 

Terence returned to the car and glanced at the two of them through the rearview mirror occasionally. His lips curved into a faint smile. 

Maryanne had already picked out the spot for food. Drinking must be accompanied by barbeque, 

AL 4:00p.m., there were no other customers in the barbeque restaurant. They chose a table on the rooftop terrace near the fireplace. 

The setting sun painted the sloy in a hue that cast a red glow on them, and the warmth from the fireplace and heating kept the chill away, 

Lily had a glass of amber–colored cocktail in her hand. The drink had a low alcohol content and tasted good. It was the same brand Terence had once brought to her

There are other flavors here too. You can try them out, Terence said and pointed at the colorful selection of cocktails on the rack. “I’ve booked a room for the both of you at the hotel next door. You can crash there if you have had too much.” 

Lily hesitated when she heard Terence. She didn’t know if Hazel was at her place. If Hazel was there and she wasn’t going home, Lily needed to let her know, 

Only then did she pull out her phone to read through the unread messages. Some were from the store’s group chat and a reminder from Landon that she had work 

tomorrow. 

Another message was one from Nadia. The timestamp on Nadia’s message showed it was sent just as Lily had tumed off her phone 

Nadia had noticed the name “Layla” when she was going through the second–round shortlist for the Avelon Designs Competition, and she purposefully messaged to ask if it was Lily. 

Lily replied to Nadia that she was Layla and explained apologetically that she had been in a closed competition for the past few days, which just ended. She scrolled further down and didn’t see any messages or missed calls from Hazel 

Lily realized she had expected too much. Hazel probably didn’t even remember when her competition ended. 

Maryanne noticed Lily’s hesitation and whined unhappily, “Lily, ever since you got married, I’ve never slept with you. That won’t do! You’re sleeping with me tonight!” 

“Okay,” Lily agreed and put down her phone. 

“Come! Keep drinking!” Maryanne chirped and opened another bottle of cocktail.

Lily’s alcohol tolerance wasn’t very high, but for some reason, her mind remained unusually clear tonight. 

Maryanne was slurring her words and starting spouting one nonsense after another. Lily, on the other hand, lowered her head and became silent, her cheeks flushing red. 

Yet, Lily’s eyes remained sharp and alert. 

“Lily, I’ll send Maryanne to the hotel first. Wait for me here and don’t wander oft alone,” Terence instructed. He took the glass away from Maryanne when he noticed she had had too much 

Lily stood up, intending to go with them when she heard Terence. But unexpectedly, her legs gave out as soon as she stood and collapsed back into her chair. 

Terence quickly reached out and steadied her. He said, “Stay here and wait for me to come back.”
