Timothy could sense the tension in the office, and it only grew heavier once he left.

Edith's tone turned sarcastic. "Why don't you just divorce her? You still miss her?"

"There's nothing to miss," Xavier replied, sitting back in his chair and crossing his legs defiantly. "I just don't want to give in to her tantrums."

Edith shot him an exasperated look. "You're Stubborn as a mule. If you didn't miss her, why were you smoking so many cigarettes downstairs?"

Xavier was taken aback.

"Who told you that's how you win a woman back?" Edith slapped the table in frustration. "Smoking all those cigarettes won't do as much as a few kind words.

"You need to explain the situation with Sarah, apologize to Lily, and publicly announce her as Mrs. Fulton. Maybe then she'll forgive you."

"Forgive?" Xavier bristled at the word. "Grandma, it was a misunderstanding between Sarah and me. But her relationship with Terence? That's a real mess!"

Edith was startled at the mention of Terence. "So, what you're saying is, Lily and Terence are…"

Xavier's expression darkened, feeling embarrassed. His voice was stiff when he answered, "Yes."

"Nonsense," Edith said without hesitation. "Just a few days ago, the Devereux family was setting up a blind date for Terence. I heard he's been in contact with the girl, but with the busy end-of-year schedule, they haven't had time to take it further."

Tamara wasn't one to gossip, so it was usually Marika who shared such tidbits with Edith.

Even without the blind date, Lily would never be with Terence, given the affairs between the two families. Plus, the Devereux family knew Lily was Mrs. Fulton.

Edith patted him and said, "Xavier, this is even harder to believe than your fling with Sarah!"

"Even if it's a misunderstanding, she never explained it to me." He believed Lily knew how much he minded her connection with Terence.

But could a simple "It's not what you think" really erase his doubts, especially when she never distanced herself from Terence?
