Chapter 32
Xavier wasn’t used to eating out.
He had to admit Lily was an incredible cook because she had spoiled him rotten with her cooking these past two years. Even so, he still didn’t think anything was special about Lily. She may be a housewife who could cook well, but Xavier felt that was only natural.
It was already 10:00 pm by the time Xavier and Sarah finished their dinner.
Xavier left the company and drove home.
Sarah stood in Xavier’s office and stared at the view of the city below. She then snapped a photo and sent it to Xyla.
Upon receiving the photo on WhatsApp, Xyla sent a crying emoji. She also replied, “I miss home, Sarah!”
Sarah texted, “Just focus on recuperating. Xavier will arrange for you to return to the country once we find a suitable heart donor.”
Xyla teased, “Does that mean I have to call Xavier my brother–in–law when I return?”
Sarah sternly answered, “Don’t you dare! I told you–Xavier’s married, so you have to know your limits whenever speaking to and with him!”
Although Xavier’s marriage wasn’t public knowledge, Sarah had overheard Timothy talking about it during one of his phone calls.
Those who didn’t know about the marriage wouldn’t have noticed anything. That said, it was easy for anyone who learned about the marriage to find out who Xavier’s wife was.
Sarah gazed at the picture of Xavier sitting at his desk. Her eyes were full of infatuation. Xavier had been the only beam of light that illuminated her life for as long as she could remember. She had been crushing on him for twelve years.
It didn’t matter why Lily and Xavier got married. Sarah would always view Lily as a mistress who got in between herself and Xavier.
Sarah believed Xavier would have eventually accepted her if Lily hadn’t come into the picture. Alas, the marriage had already happened. She couldn’t risk acting rashly and arousing suspicion now since Xavier hadn’t accepted her feelings.
That said, she had a feeling Xavier hadn’t accepted Lily either. Otherwise, why wouldn’t he let the public know Lily was his wife? Since his and Lily’s relationship wasn’t stable, Sarah felt she still had a chance and was willing to wait.
She gazed at the many photos of Xavier she had secretly taken as malice gleamed in her eyes.
It was 11:00 pm.
The dining room’s lights were still on. On the table were four dishes and a pot of soup that was once steaming. Now, the food had gone cold, much like Lily’s heart.
She wondered if Xavier was intentionally toying with her by asking her to prepare dinner even though he would eat at the office with Sarah.
Lily received a photo half an hour ago. This time, the sender had used a different, unknown number without any name.
What left Lily beyond miserable wasn’t the fact that Xavier had dinner with Sarah. Instead, she was upset by the photo of the two. She recognized that they were in Xavier’s office, and she could tell Sarah was wearing Xavier’s bathrobe.
Lily was determined to get a divorce, but she couldn’t bring herself not to feel sad about it. After all, one couldn’t stop loving their partner with the snap of a finger.
It felt like her heart was ripped open, and blood kept spilling out. Scars would often remain after wounds healed. Given this was a fresh wound that hadn’t healed, it was natural that it hurt.
A car’s headlights shined outside the window as a Maybach pulled over in the yard.
