“You’re making it hard for me to go abroad,” Lily said as she saw his eyes redden, handing him a tissue. “I’ve already seen through it all, so it’s really fine. Don’t feel sorry for me. For me…being alone is the best choice.”

Looking at the rundown neighborhood and thinking of her tiny one–bedroom apartment, Hayden silently vowed to buy Lily a much bigger house. 

Lily smiled in response “Alright. When I return from the competition, I hope you’ve succeeded, and I’ll be better oft than now!” 

She didn’t dare think too much about how far she would go in this competition. She didn’t dare to hope for the championship; she only wished for a decent outcome so that work would be easier when she returned. 

Hayden saw her to the door, only leaving after watching her close it behind her. 

She changed her shoes and sat on the couch in the living room. 

She hadn’t really thought she had to win the championship Her expectations weren’t high. It was enough as long as she could earn enough to get by. 

If there was one thing she really wanted to achieve, it was to get a divorce. Unfortunately, that was the one thing that felt impossible to her. 

The foyer light was dim, and the living room was gloomy. She curled up on the couch, staring out the window at the starry sky, lost in thought. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. It repeated a few times before she snapped out of her trance, slipped on her shoes, and opened the door. “What now?” she muttered, thinking it was Hayden returning 

But when she opened the door, no one was there. The hallway was empty, with the white walls taking on a dull gray hue. 

She stood frozen for a few seconds before quickly closing the door, only to have a hand shoot out and block it. 

In the next instant, Bruce’s sinister face appeared before her. “Darn it! I finally found out which building you live in!”
