Sarah and Nadia exchanged glances for a few seconds before Nadia stepped forward to introduce them.
“This is my assistant, Lily.”
“Oh, it’s you,” Sarah said while flashing an innocent smile at Lily.
She even stood up and tried to appear friendly.
But Lily stayed rooted in place. She clutched the documents tightly in her hands.
Though Nadia knew Sarah, judging by the look on her face, it was clear she had no idea that Lily and Sarah knew each other as well.
“What a small world,” Lily thought. She had been bumping into either Xavier or Sarah lately.
Was it really a coincidence? She didn’t think so.
“Do you know each other?” Nadia asked, surprised.
Sarah nodded. “Yes, we do.”
But Lily said, “No, we don’t.”
Awkwardness filled the room, yet Sarah broke the tension first. Seemingly unfazed, she continued, “We’ve bumped into each other before at the entrance of a restaurant, where I was with my boyfriend. She even delivered some documents to him later. But it seems she doesn’t remember me.”
Sarah was referring to Xavier as her boyfriend.
As she spoke, she crossed her arms and smirked at Lily. Her eyes were full of blatant provocation.
But Lily found it amusing. So, Sarah remembered every encounter with her but pretended not to recognize her in Xavier’s office.
Since Lily and Xavier were in a secret marriage, their relationship couldn’t be made public. With the divorce looming, she also didn’t want to cause any trouble.
“Ms. Lynde has quite the memory.”
She simply smiled, pulled out her chair, and sat down. She seemed ready to discuss work.
Even though Sarah’s jab had landed on deaf ears, she wasn’t discouraged.
Once everyone was seated, Nadia began, “Ms. Lynde, do you have any specific preferences for the interior’s design?”
“My boyfriend will be visiting frequently, so I’d like the design to reflect his tastes. He prefers darker tones.”
Sarah emphasized the requirements for the bedroom and study, while Nadia asked about colors and materials. Lily was supposed to be taking notes, but she didn’t write a single word despite holding her pen.
“Ms. Lynde, I highly value new talent, so I hope you can give Lily a chance. I’d love for her to take on your project.”
When Lily came back to her senses, Nadia had already finished talking with Sarah and was giving her a meaningful look.
Before Lily could respond, Sarah said, “Sure. I’m someone who loves giving people opportunities. Ms. Joyner just needs to make the most of it.”
“We’ll start with a deposit,” Nadia said while pulling out a contract. “It’s company policy to collect a deposit first. Afterward, we’ll schedule a time to come to your home and take measurements, and then we’ll show you a design draft.
“If you’re unhappy with anything, we can make adjustments until you’re satisfied. Only then will you sign the final contract and pay the remaining balance.”
Sarah immediately produced a black card from her bag and nudged it toward Lily.
