Samantha was so moved by Layla's heartfelt words that she almost cried. It was so inspiring and uplifting.

She couldn't help but clap her hands in applause. "Layla, you're truly incredible! Your willingness to make sacrifices for me means so much, and I can't help but want to give you a big hug!"

Layla gave Samantha a quick hug, then hurriedly packed the food into the container. "His dinner time is coming up. I need to rush over."

"He's not even a doctor on call. Why is he so concerned about time?"

"He's going to discuss some random thing with an academic group later. Who knows? I have to get the food to him quickly."

"Alright. Stay safe."

"Okay." Layla grabbed the bag and headed out. Before leaving, she reminded Samantha, "Hurry up and eat while it's still hot. Don't go hungry."

"Got it."

After Layla left, Samantha grabbed a plate and served herself with the food she wanted to eat, leaving half of it behind. Then, she happily poured herself a glass of soda and settled in to eat while watching TV. Life felt so relaxed and carefree.

Just as the TV show reached a thrilling moment, Samantha's phone unexpectedly rang. She looked at the screen and saw that it was "Mom" calling.

Ever since she was kicked out of the Newton family, she hadn't received a call from Jane. She couldn't even bring herself to change the contact name.

Given how badly things had ended between her and Matthew, she wasn't sure how Jane would feel. She hesitated, not wanting to pick up, but in the end, she still answered the call.

"Hello, Mom..." The word "Mom" came out hoarsely, and Samantha felt awkward, not knowing what to say next.

On the other end of the phone, Jane's voice trembled with tears. "Sam, your grandmother doesn't have much time left. Matt doesn't want you to know, but I think you should know. Come right away. Maybe you'll still be able to see her one last time."
