Samantha hesitated for a while before finally appearing at the door of the study.

She walked back and forth in the hallway for quite some time, still unsure of what to say once she opened the door. To her surprise, the door… opened on its own.

Leonardo stood in the doorway. The study was brightly lit, and Leonardo stood with the light behind him. His tall frame cast a shadow that completely covered Samantha.

Leonardo continued, "If you want to exercise, there's a gym. Should I take you there?"

"I don't want to exercise."

"What do you want to do then?"

The words were on the tip of her tongue, so she closed her eyes and just blurted it out. "Can I get an advance on my pocket money for the next two months?"

"What do you need it for?"

Samantha lowered her head, nervously playing with her fingers. "Something came up at home, and I need the money."

"Your home…"

The words hovered at the edge of his mouth, but he forced them back down.

He wanted to say that she had been kicked out of the Newton family, that she no longer had a home. But he realized that would be too harsh, so he held back.
