Chapter 10

Apr 17, 2025

Laughter rang out as wolves of all ages celebrated the Full Moon. But for Damien, it felt like a weight he couldn’t shake.

His father had insisted on him attending the festival tonight, sending him in his place as always. It was no secret that Alpha Magnus and Alpha Orion had been close for years—like father and son.

He stood at the edge of the celebration, his gaze drifting toward Alpha Orion.

The wolf stood with his chest puffed with pride. A woman stood up too instantly. She was stunning, and as she leaned into Orion, her eyes locked with his, Damien knew. Orion had found his mate.

“Lucky bastard,” Damien muttered under his breath, turning away from the pair.

As much as he hated to admit it, he couldn’t deny the pang of jealousy in his chest. He should be happy for Orion.

He excused himself from the festivities and slipped toward the back of the grounds, hoping to find some peace in the quiet of the trees.

The cold air hit him like a slap, and Damien breathed it in deeply, trying to push his emotions aside. His father would be waiting for him back at the Alpha’s house, expecting him to put on the act of a proud son. But how could he do that when his life felt like a series of broken pieces?

As he walked, he decided to take a quick detour to the restroom. Maybe some water would help clear his head. But as he rounded the corner, he collided with something small—something soft, something… human?

“Whoa, hey, sorry about that,” Damien said, steadying the little figure. He looked down to see a small boy, no more than four years, blinking up at him with wide eyes.

The boy’s golden brown hair was tousled, and his face was dirt-smudged from the excitement of the festival. Damien couldn’t help but smile at the child’s innocence.
