Chapter 129 novel His Destructive, Toxic Love
Jeffrey was rushed to the hospital, barely clinging to life with the help of machines. The entire Welton family, including Eliza, waited anxiously outside the room.
Inside the hospital room, Caroline had a relatively clear understanding of Jeffrey's condition. She leaned in close to Tristan and whispered, "Dad, Grandpa had a momentary improvement before his condition worsened. I think we need to prepare for the worst."
Thinking about the worst was something Tristan had never entertained. As long as Eliza was alive, Jeffrey had a chance to live.
"What are we waiting for? Get her to give blood now!" Tristan snapped at Casper.
Caroline, puzzled, looked from Casper back to her father. "Dad, what a blood transfusion? Grandpa doesn't have a blood disease. What's going on?"
"You don't know this, but your grandpa's illness needs Eliza's blood to keep him alive," Tristan growled, glaring at Casper, who stood frozen. His anger escalated, "What are you waiting for? Take her to give blood now, or it'll be too late!"
Caroline was stunned into silence.
"No, this isn't right," she protested, stepping in front of Casper, her eyes wide with shock. "Casper, Eliza is your wife. How can you even think of draining her blood to save Grandpa?"
Casper's eyes were cold, a bitter smile playing on his lips.
Tristan roughly pulled Caroline aside. "This isn't your place. Casper, take Eliza to donate blood now. We're running out of time."
"Dad," Caroline pleaded. "Grandpa is over ninety. Let him go in peace. Why would you risk Eliza's life? This is madness."
Eliza wasn't particularly surprised. Donating blood when Jeffrey was ill had become a grim routine. This time, though, he was sicker than ever, and even half of her blood might not be enough.
She appreciated Caroline’s support but knew it wouldn’t change what Casper was determined to do. He believed Jeffrey’s life outweighed everyone else's.
Casper's cold eyes locked onto Eliza. "Come with me."
"No, don't go," Caroline insisted, her voice breaking. "You'll die, Eliza. They’re all crazy. You can’t..."
Eliza whispered, gently holding Caroline's hand and forcing a sad smile. "There are some things I can't refuse."
