Eliza held Brock's tiny hand as they laughed and chatted, walking out of the preschool together.
Across the street, in a parked car, Aaron extinguished his cigarette, his eyes locked on Eliza and Brock. "So, this is the preschool. She comes here every weekend to pick up and drop off the kid. You know what to do, right? I don't need to spell it out for you."
"Does Casper still not know the kid is his?" a woman asked.
"He will," Aaron replied, a sinister smile creeping across his face. "But first, I need to use this kid to get Eliza to trust me again, and then..."
Aaron planned to let Casper know Brock was his only after the child disappeared. That kind of pain...
"And if Casper finds out it was me..." The woman asked.
"Smack."
Without warning, Aaron slapped the woman hard across the face. The slap left her ears ringing, almost as if her eardrums were about to burst.
"I saved you from death, and you're quibbling over something so trivial?" Aaron glared at her, his voice filled with impatience and menace. "I'm asking you to kidnap the kid, not commit arson or murder. What are you afraid of? Do you want to be thrown into the open sea again?"
The woman, dizzy from the slap, clutched her reddened cheek. Her eyes were filled with fear and trembling. She shook her head desperately, her voice trembling. "No, I don't want to. I wouldn’t dare. I'll do whatever you say."
Though her face was without a smile, it was calm, gentle, composed, and elegant. "Mr. Casper." She slightly bent down, took out a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet, and respectfully placed them at his feet. Casper glanced down at her, changed into the slippers, and walked into the living room.
"Go make dinner. I'm hungry," his voice was cool and distant, devoid of warmth.
"Okay," she replied and went to the kitchen.
Casper sat in the living room, somewhat bored, pondering some matters. Today, Dillon had told him that Zach had approached Eliza. Casper guessed it was about the Blue Mountain project. Lately, too many people had been eyeing this project. Casper had already identified no fewer than three insiders within Welton International colluding with Zach. The project was quite challenging and slow to progress. What would Casper do if Zach used Eliza to sabotage the project?
Casper’s gaze slowly lifted, looking towards the slender silhouette in the kitchen.
