Branches tore at his handsome face as he raced through the forest, leaving him scratched and bleeding, but he didn't care.

He kept running, his strong legs moving mechanically, almost numb from exertion.

The only thing driving him forward was the burning need to rescue Evadne.

He had no idea how long he’d been running when he finally reached the front of the mansion. His legs were trembling, and his towering, muscular frame swayed slightly in the chilling wind.

Thaddeus took a deep breath and gripped his revolver tightly.

Despite the searing pain and the blood pouring from his shoulder, Thaddeus stood tall, his voice steady. “You’ve lived in darkness your whole life. Isn’t it time to face the light? Come out and end this.”

“I was just with Evadne. Didn’t have the time to deal with you,” Avery replied, his tone dripping with malicious glee. “So I sent you a little welcoming party. Did you enjoy it?”

The mention of being with Evadne twisted Thaddeus’s insides into knots, his anger surging, voice raw and shattered as he shouted toward the source of the voice:
