“Miss Evadne, are you really planning to go easy on that Ms. Edith? This has got to be the softest I’ve ever seen you.” 

Jason saw Evadne kicking off her high heels haphazardly, revealing a helpless yet doting smile. He neatly arranged them under the table for her. 

At the moment, Evadne was furiously playing a video game to relax, wreaking havoc in the virtual world. 

In this game world, the female slaughter queen Cifer had become a goddess adored by players. Every time she live–streamed her gaming, hundreds of thousands of people would watch, the popularity was enormous. 

“What are you thinking, going easy? I’m a charitable businesswoman, not a saint brimming with sympathy. I haven’t dealt with Edith only because I currently have no concrete evidence. She made Glynnis her scapegoat, all the suspicions are indirect, and I can’t do anything to her.”

“Cassius!” Evadne quickly picked up, her voice sweet and sticky. 

“Evadne, are you at the hotel?” Cassius asked. 

“Yes, in the office.” 

“So, are you with Jason?” Cassius lowered his voice. 

Evadne, astute as she was, immediately caught on and got up to walk towards the door, pretending to go to the restroom. 

If she asked Jason to leave at this time, it would surely make the perceptive Jareth suspicious that she was deliberately avoiding him. 

After reaching the private restroom, Evadne closed the door. 

“Cassius, what’s the matter? Is it about Jason?” 

“It doesn’t have much to do with Jason but there are some connections. He’s with you, so there are some things I can’t say openly.” 

Cassius paused, his tone steady, “Mr. Frederic, in order to get his daughter out, once again sought the help of Jason’s lawyer brother, Cedric Dempsey. Cedric has already gone to the police station to get Miss Abernathy.” 

Evadne’s pupils darkened, “With Jim guarding her, the probability of Glynnis getting out is quite high.” 

“Cedric is wily and experienced, with an undefeated record in his decade–long legal career, and he won’t allow himself to fail. So even if he has to resort to unscrupulous means, he will clear Miss Abernathy’s name.” 

Cassius gently reminded, “Evadne, if I were Cedric, I would start with that Ms. Caroline. After all, she is currently the primary witness accusing Glynnis.” 

“Cassius, I get what you’re saying. But Caroline is not in my hands right now. She’s controlled by Thaddeus.” 

Evadne took a deep breath, her expression calm, “I’ll handle–this matter. You and Thad shouldn’t get involved. Especially Thad, he’s a civil servant and can’t do anything illegal for my sake. If he’s caught by someone with malicious intentions, it won’t be good.” 

After ending the call, she felt a heavier burden on her heart.. 

As for Glynnis, she had never taken her seriously. After all, Elspeth was the ant queen she wanted to take down. 

But she was worried that this matter would upset Jason again. That foolish young man had a strong sense of responsibility and was too sensitive. Would he come crying to her again? 

With a heavy mood, Evadne walked towards the office:

The next second, she crashed into a calm chest, the man’s slightly hurried breath brushing her hair, spreading warmth throughout her b*dy. 

The embrace was deep and heavy, making her feel both unfamiliar and familiar. 

It belonged to Thaddeus. 

Perhaps because she was wearing ultra–high heels, and he was afraid she would sprain her ankle, his sturdy arms immediately tightened around her slender waist. 

The grip was somewhat heavy, mixed with conflicting emotions. He both wanted to protect her and feared she would run away like a scared rabbit. 

“Thaddeus! How did you get in?” Evadne was shocked and angry, her cheeks flushed as she struggled.

“I don’t expect gratitude from you, but do you always have to answer my presence with hostility?” 

“Gratitude? For what? For manipulating Caroline into testifying against Glynnis?” 

Evadne’s chest heaved with indignation, her eyes sparkling dangerously. Even her scornful laugh was stunning. “Thaddeus, you have no shame. If anyone should be saying thanks, it’s you, not me. You used Caroline to set a trap for Glynnis. Can you honestly say you had no intention of using my situation to your advantage? Without my unwitting assistance, would your plan have even worked?” 

“Evadne!” 

Thaddeus was infuriated again, his chest tight with anger. His starry eyes flashed red. “I just wanted to see you.” 

“Well, I don’t want to see you at all!” 

Evadne’s left hand was caught in his iron grip, and she couldn’t break free: Fighting him off was impossible. She was no match for this ex–military man!. So, she reached into her jacket pocket with her left hand, intending to grab her phone and call Jason. But Thaddeus anticipated her move and swiftly captured her other hand. 

Seeing she was completely restrained, Evadne could only scream for help, but her cry was abruptly cut off by Thaddeus‘ l*ps descending on hers. 

His warm breath enveloped Evadne’s trembling l*ps, the hand holding her wrist was slick with sweat, and beads of perspiration trickled down his forehead. 

The last time he had k*ssed her like this, he had been drunk. 

This time, he didn’t have an excuse. 

He thought, “Thaddeus, you’re divorced. This is wrong. But isn’t that what desire is? Knowing it’s wrong, but unable to control the stirring in your heart.”

Evadne’s hoarse voice called out to Jason, but he was oblivious to her plea. 

His mind was filled with the sight of Evadne being forcefully k*ssed by Thaddeus, his eyes fixated on the seductive red l*pstick smeared on Thaddeus‘ thin l*ps. 

“Thaddeus. I’m going to kill you!” 

Thaddeus‘ eyes/narrowed slightly, a frown creasing his forehead. 

Jason was a taekwondo black–belt holder, once famed for his swift kicks in Elmsworth. He spun around, his leg shooting up towards Thaddeus‘ chest. 

But even his best effort was too slow for Thaddeus. 

In an instant, Thaddeus moved behind him, his hand gripping Jason’s shoulder, and with a swift motion, Jason was brought down. 

“What kind of trick is this?” 

He had thought such crafty moves only existed in martial arts novels, not in real life! 

But Evadne recognized it right away. It was a close–combat technique taught in military school. She knew Elvis could do the same. 

With enough speed and precision, anyone could easily suppress an opponent using this technique. But without at least five years of special training, most people couldn’t pull it off. 

“Enough! Thaddeus!” 

Evadne held onto the still numb Jason. If not for her support, the towering man might have ended up on his knees in front of Thaddeus!
