Thaddeus didn’t delve deep into this, his mind was preoccupied with her smoke allergy, he was both guilty and upset. 

“I’ll call Gordon to deliver. Or maybe he can cook it himself. His culinary skills may not match Mr. Jason’s, but it’s decent enough.” 

Thaddeus noticed Evadne was barefoot, her pale and tender feet exposed without shoes. With a frown, he easily lifted her by her slim waist. 

“What are you doing?” Evadne grabbed onto his broad shoulders in panic. 

“How can you be so careless? The tiles are cold, you shouldn’t be barefoot.” 

Thaddeus gently sat Evadne on the table, knelt before her, and warmed her feet in his hands. 

So warm, all the warmth she knew well. 

Evadne closed her eyes in comfort, not daring to be too obvious. 

“Alva once told me that a woman’s feet are important. You mustn’t catch a chill, or it will bring illness in later years.”

But that could never satisfy him. When it came to her, he was never satiated. 

The temperature of Evadne’s skin was rising, her cheeks flushed with bashfulness. 

Despite everything they had done, she was still shy when he approached her.. 

Just as Thaddeus‘ l*ps were about to touch her soft skin, the doorbell rang. 

He didn’t want to answer it, yet it kept ringing!

“You haven’t put on your shoes. It’s best not to touch the ground with your feet.” 

Evadne’s eyes widened, shocked by his strength. Only Emeric used to carry her like this when she was little, but she was much lighter then.

With Evadne’s protests in the background, Thaddeus opened the door.

“Congratulations on finally not having to stand outside.” Jareth said, giving Evadne a meaningful look. 

Evadne was speechless. 

Thaddeus frowned, “You, say what you need to say, or get out.” 

“I do have something! I wouldn’t come otherwise, can the lovebirds let me in?” Jareth asked cheekily. 

Thaddeus said, “Come in.” 

Evadne said, “We are not lovebirds!” 

Ignoring her, Jareth brazenly entered. 

Thaddeus put Evadne down and personally helped her put on her shoes. 

Evadne quickly put some distance between them, but her actions made her look guilty. 

The four of them sat in the living room, Thaddeus sat next to Evadne, so close she could hardly breathe. As he tried to put his arm around her waist, she dodged him. 

Thaddeus couldn’t help but chuckle, he played with her hair when she wasn’t looking. 

She’s so petty, not the passionate woman from last night. 

That was when Evadne found out that Thaddeus had sent Gordon to track Elspeth.

Gordon was thirsty, he took a gulp of water before continuing, “I found out she went to Elmsworth Bank to see the bank manager.” 

“Is she going to transfer a large amount of wealth?” Evadne asked, quick to catch on. 

Gordon gave her a thumbs up, “Mrs. Abernathy, you are so smart!” 

Thaddeus smiled, very satisfied with the title. 

Evadne blushed, her annoyance clear, but her curiosity got the best of her. “Continue!” 

“Then, I discovered through my resources that she had a secret account in the Bank of Country R. I don’t know how much money is in there, but I did find out how much she recently transferred to Elmsworth Bank. 

A whopping 20 million!” 

“20 million? Wow, the old hag sure did save up for her funeral.” Jareth raised his eyebrows, unable to resist a jibe. 

“I suppose this must be the hush money and escape fund Ward demanded from her.” Thaddeus sneered, his eyes cold. 

“But what surprised me more is that Elspeth could just casually pull out such a large sum from her account at the Bank of Country R!” Gordon was genuinely astonished. 

“As far as I know, Elspeth has some shares in the Abernathy Group, and her annual dividends have added up to more than 20 million by now. So it’s not surprising that she can afford it.” Evadne pondered, her finger resting on her delicate jawline. 

Thaddeus fixed his gaze on her, “Elspeth has a lot of money, but every penny is under Frederic’s control. Her account with the Abernathy Group is completely transparent.
