Chapter 506 

Thaddeus’s eyes widened, a tantalizing tingle coursing through his b*dy. 

His warm palm circled the nape of her neck, pressing gently, deepening their k*ss without restraint. 

The old lady running the food stall turned away to clean up her dishes, not wanting to understand too much of the scene unfolding before her. 

And that sweet k*ss brutally pierced Avery’s eyes and heart, wrenching his insides into a tight knot.. 

It was as if a bloody blade had cruelly sliced open his chest, filled with bitterness and sorrow, letting the blood flow like a river, a ghastly sight to behold. 

Harvey, of course, saw it too and sighed in frustration. 

But in this world, everything can be achieved through effort and cunning, except for love. 

Mr. Chambers had given everything for this woman, yet Evadne still threw herself into Thad’s arms without looking back!

As Evadne slowly pulled away from the fiery k*ss, a blush tinged her cheeks and her voice was choked with emotion, “Thad, you’ve suffered. But it’s all over now, and ahead of us are better days.” 

“Having you by my side, every day, I feel like I’m the luckiest man in the world,” Thaddeus said, embracing his beloved, his gaze filled with dream’s of their wonderful life together. 

He wasn’t the romantic type, not great with sweet nothings. 

But for Evadne, he was willing to learn from scratch. 

Evadne leaned into his embrace, listening to his strong heartbeat, her eyes brimming with tears, unable to help but sniffle. 

“Evadne, are you crying?” Thaddeus asked in surprise. 

“It’s all your fault,” she murmured, her voice muffled against his chest. 

Thaddeus’s heart skipped a beat as he asked softly, “What’s wrong? You feel sorry for your man?” 

Evadne was too shy to speak, but the tears glistening at the corner of her eyes spoke for her. 

“Silly girl, why the tears? I’m tough; I thrive when faced with adversity, it makes me stronger.” 

Thaddeus couldn’t describe the mix of heartache and guilt, but there was also the joy and contentment of sharing a mutual understanding with the one he loved, “Evadne, do you know? Every day I count my blessings, thankful I didn’t die when I was young, thankful I survived my time in the army in Zenithia. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had the chance to fall in love with you.” 

The night was clear, stars twinkling above as a gentle breeze caressed the silhouette of the couple huddled together, enveloped in a serene atmosphere. 

Unbeknownst to them, across the street, a luxury car had been watching them with envy for some time. 

“Mr. Chambers, it’s getting late, we should head back,” Harvey suggested, wiping his forehead nervously. 

Avery seemed to have his soul sucked out, slumping back in his chair, his red eyes closing as he removed his gold–rimmed glasses. 

A crisp snap echoed. 

“Mr. Chambers!” Harvey turned around in shock. 

Avery had crushed the glasses in his hand, refusing to let go as sharp shards pierced his skin, and blood slowly dripped through his trembling fingers, falling into the darkness. 

Harvey’s heart raced with fear! 

Those glasses were a personal item for Mr. Chambers, worn since the day he had started working for him. 

Now, Mr. Chambers had crushed them, indicating the depth of his pain and resentment. 

“You said before, Emeric, you couldn’t find any trace of Evadne? Hah. Isn’t this a trace right here?” 

With that, Avery slowly opened his eyes, filled with a dark intensity, and took out his phone to dial Emeric’s number. 

The next day. 

After what felt like an eternity of grueling interrogation, Matthew walked out of the prosecutor’s office looking nearly spent. 

But before he could even go home to change, Jeff summoned him to the hospital. 

In the hospital room, upon learning that the family assets had shrunk by two hundred million dollars in just a few days, Jeff was so furious he wreaked havoc in the room, outdoing a Husky in a demolition job. 

Money wasn’t the most important thing. 

What mattered was that the negative publicity had impacted the Chambers Group’s major project in Helgen, which had to be halted, and Helgen’s related departments were now scrutinizing their company’s financial status and qualifications–this was the heaviest blow! 

“Dad, calm down, please. Anger is bad for your health, Matthew said, his greasy hair shining and his face unshaven and haggard, his voice hoarse from frustration, “We can earn back the money, but if we don’t handle this trouble properly, it could affect the Chambers family…” 

“You think earning back the money is easy?” Jeff stood amidst the wreckage, panting with rage, “Two hundred million dollars plus the overseas projects on hold, we’ve lost nearly one billion! Tell me! With your mediocre skills, when can you earn it back for me?” 

Matthew’s face stiffened, and he was at a loss for words. 

‘Don’t panic, Dad.” 

A soothing voice filled the room, and Matthew’s heart sank. 

Avery walked into the hospital room with a graceful ease that bordered on feminine, his face showing no signs of worry, still smiling confidently, “Don’t worry about the Helgen project, Dad. I have a way to smooth everything over for you.” 

“Avery, you have a way?” Jeff exclaimed in surprise. 

Matthew’s expression was blank, but his gaze at Avery was filled with venom, silently cursing; 

Damn this pretender, this pretty boy! 

In ancient times, he’d be nothing but an unmanly eunuch beside the emperor! 

“Dad, I may have been abroad these past years, but I haven’t been idle. I’ve built up some connections.” 

Avery approached his father, gently patting Jeff’s back, “Have you forgotten? I spent fifteen years in Helgen. Navigating the social circles to greenlight our projects is a small task I can handle for you.” 

“Avery! Are you serious? Can you really get the Helgen project back on track?” Jeff clutched his son’s arm in excitement. 

Avery looked into his father’s eyes, gleaming with hope, and inwardly sneered. 

All his life, his own father had either hit or scolded him, calling him useless, an animal. He had never seen such fervent anticipation from him. 

He could never forget how the people of his family treated him. 

When he was eight, they made him kneel in the snow without food. Byron and Bertha would drench him with icy water and stuff snow down his collar, leaving him with a fever that raged for three days and nights, while his mother could only sit by his side, wiping her tears in secret.. 

And Matthew, his older brother, did nothing but encourage them, standing by with a smile plastered on his face–a smile so joyful. 

Even then, he silently swore that one day, he would have them all crying, their faces twisted in agony. 

“Dad, this is a billion–dollar deal. I have no reason to lie to you,” Avery said, his gaze sharp beneath a facade of innocence, like a child who could do no wrong. 

“My boy, my good son!” 

Jeff was beaming with pride, his large hand gripping Avery’s shoulder, “Avery, I admit I was too harsh on you before, didn’t show enough care. I apologize for that!” 

“Dad, don’t say that.” 

Avery hugged his father, patting his back soothingly, “You’re my father. If I don’t support you, who will I support? Your strictness was meant to make something of me, to help me succeed. I’ve never resented you for it.” 

Jeff’s eyes swam with tears at his son’s words. 

“The runt speaks as if he could do no wrong, as if he could walk on water,” Matthew glared at him, “Don’t cause trouble just because there’s a storm. If you’re so capable, why haven’t you shown it during all this time since you’ve been back?” 

“Because you, Matthew, are the CEO of the Chambers Group. I’ve always believed in your ability to lead us out of trouble. I would never dare to show off my trivial skills in front of you,” Avery said with a twinkle in his eye, delivering a backhanded compliment with finesse. 

“Hmph, if Matthew was as capable as you claim, the Chambers Group wouldn’t have stagnated these past few years, even losing the title of wealthiest in…- Elmsworth to the Abernathy Group!” Jeff snorted, casting a disapproving look at Matthew. 

Matthew’s face darkened with rage, his years of being groomed as the heir to the Chambers Group and his influence felt meaningless in the face of this 

humiliation. 

He cursed, “Avery, you play a hard game!” 

“Avery, since you have ideas, when do you plan to act?” Jeff asked anxiously. 

“Dad, I can try to smooth things over, but in what capacity should I appear?” 

Avery sighed with feigned concern, “I have no shares in the group, which is fine, but I don’t even hold a position. How should I introduce myself to the officials at Helgen?” 

“That’s easy!” 

Jeff’s hand landed heavily on his shoulder, “Tomorrow, I’ll issue an order appointing you as the Executive Director of the group, participating in high–level decision–making meetings! As long as you can restart the Helgen project, I will transfer all of Bertha’s shares to you, plus an additional five percent!” 

Matthew was stunned, as though lightning had struck him. Yet, there Avery was, skillfully manipulating their father ready to grant any request as long as his son could pull the group out of its rut. 

Avery’s eyes curved in a smile, “I thank you for your support, father.” 

Before they could continue, Jeff’s secretary rushed in, panic in her voice, “Mr. Chambers! It’s terrible! Mr. Byron has been arrested by the police!” 

“What?” Jeff and Matthew were both shocked. 

Only Avery, standing behind them, had a smirk curling at the corner of his mouth. 

Byron had been arrested mid–party with models, high and wild, even assaulting the officers while shouting delusions of grandeur. 

With an added charge of assaulting an officer, he was a spitting image of the crazy dog bloodline he hailed from. 

Byron’s arrest was a spectacle; he was reduced to nothing but his underwear, and the police, in a show of mercy, allowed him to maintain this shred of dignity as he was escorted from the grand Chambers family estate. 

“What right do you have to arrest me? I’ve done nothing wrong! I’m a good citizen!” Byron bellowed, high and fearless, his speech slurred, his expression uncontrollable, drooling, his eyes looking in opposite directions. 

The police, unable to suppress a laugh, sternly announced, “Byron, you are officially being arrested for rape! Plus an additional charge of assaulting an officer!” 

“Rape? You’ve got the wrong guy! I didn’t do it! You’re making a mistake! This is a miscarriage of justice!” Byron’s slurred speech began to clear up a bit. “Miscarriage of justice? We have all the evidence of your crimes. Dozens of girls have been victimized by you!” 

The police, boiling with anger, wished they could pulverize his sodden brain, “Let me tell you, you’re looking at a long sentence, and you can save your pitiful excuses for the courtroom!” 

The mention of prison shook Byron to his core, his bravado shattered. 

Perhaps resigned to his fate or spurred by the drugs, he suddenly found unnatural strength and shoved the officer away! 

And then, an appalling scene unfolded–Byron, greasy and sweaty, clenched his teeth and stripped off the last piece of clothing he had. 

“I couldn’t possibly commit rape! I’m impotent. I’m S**ually dysfunctional!” 

Flashes went off like a storm, bombarding Byron! 

His most private part was now tremblingly exposed, like an exhibit under the frenzied snapping of the press cameras! 

Byron’s mouth gaped open, his b*dy rigid. His muddled brain hadn’t even registered the media presence until now. 

And then, everything went dark. He fainted.
