She pulled out a USB drive hidden in her hair bun and plugged it into the computer. It was a gift from a friend, who would be waiting up all night to fight alongside her.

I’m aiming for three,” she replied with steely determination, her eyes fixed on the scrolling green code on the screen, her brow beaded with sweat. “I can’t communicate with Elva, but I know the opportunity she got to approach Matthew’s computer must not have come easily. Every extra minute adds to her danger!” 

Thaddeus‘ jawline tensed, sweating for both Elva and even more for Evadne. His own hacking skills were of the five–minute variety; he couldn’t help at all.

Elva’s eyes were glued to the progress bar on the screen, which had reached 50%. Her heart pounded in her throat. 

If Matthew discovered she had touched his computer, she would surely pay with her life at the hands of that beast!

Just as the progress bar hit 90%, it froze! 

At the same time, the sound of water in the bathroom stopped! 

In an instant, Elva’s heart seemed to count down, as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her, soaking her entire body
