As time marched on, the weekend arrived. 

Tonight, the Chambers Estate was a spectacle of opulence and grandeur. The grand fountain at the heart of the courtyard was restarted with vigor, while the mansion’s halls bloomed with floral arrangements, resembling a lavish palace. 

Guests converged in the main hall, with fine attire and perfumed hair, the clinking of glasses and lively banter filling the air. 

Ever since Bertha Chambers had faced a harsh sentence, and Byron met a grim end behind bars, a series of business blunders had sent the Chambers Group’s stocks tumbling. The entire group was reeling from an unprecedented blow, a shadow of gloom over it for far too long. But tonight, the Chambers shone brightly once more. 

Jeff walked among the guests with Matthew and Elva, basking in the adulation that hadn’t graced their ears in a long time, pride swelling within him. 

“Look! Mrs. Chambers‘ gown–isn’t that a Eunice original?”

Elva suppressed her disgust, her lips curling into a charming smile. 

“Where’s Avery?” 

Jeff scanned the room, his brow furrowed. “At such a critical moment, how can he be missing?” 

“Mr. Avery’s secretary mentioned he went to personally greet a distinguished guest,” Elva chimed in. 

“Hah, his ‘distinguished guest‘ wouldn’t happen to be that Ashbourne girl, would it?” Matthew scoffed with disdain. 

Elva bowed her head, staying silent. 

Jeff’s expression darkened, clearly irritated, “I heard Thaddeus has already been on Emeric’s good side, living at the Ashbourne’s Silverlake Harbor residence. The Ashbourne family has all fully accepted him; his remarriage to Evadne is just a matter of time! 

When will Avery give up on that wretched girl? How long will he remain stubbornly infatuated!” 

At that moment, the secretary hurried over. 

“Mr. Jeff, Ms. Ashbourne and Mr. Thaddeus have arrived.” 

The Chambers men’s faces twisted in unison–equally displeased. 

They had indeed sent an invitation to the Abernathy Group, but it was Frederic they expected. 

They hadn’t anticipated that instead of Mr. Frederic, this notorious duo would grace their doorstep! 

A top–tier luxury car pulled up in front of the main entrance.

“Evadne, are you cold?” Thaddeus whispered close to her ear 

His hand found the small of her back, squeezing the soft flesh that he found irresistible. 

“I’m alright, it’s just a few steps to the door‘ Evadne replied, her eyes meeting his with a warm smile. 

Together, they were a radiant pair, naturally drawing everyone’s attention.

Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy turned to look, their faces lighting up in joy, “Jareth, Marilla!” 

Beneath the glittering lights, Mr. Fairhaven, impeccably dressed, approached with his delicate wife, both beaming with happiness. It was clearly a sweet newlywed couple. 

Marilla followed Jareth obediently. In a refined lavender gown, she had her hair elegantly styled with the white jade hairpin Jareth had gifted her–a cherished accessory she wore almost daily. 

Though still a bit shy and nervous, she had come a long way from her days of retreating into her shell at the sight of strangers. 

Most notably, she hadn’t brought her teddy bear tonight–an indication of her improving condition. It was clear that Jareth’s love and care had given her an irreplaceable sense of security. 

Jareth’s public debut with his beloved drew murmurs from the crowd. 

“Who’s that girl with Mr. Jareth? She’s as pretty as a doll.”
