Chapter 243 Making an Excuse

Harper inquired, "Do you think so? Do you want to meet him?"

Annie remained expressionless for a moment. After a few seconds, she forced a smile and replied, "It's not a matter of whether we should meet or not, but it seems necessary for him and me to have a conversation. If we don't address some issues now, he might resort to the same methods again. I've been contemplating this for the past two days, avoiding confronting certain realities. But avoidance is not a permanent solution."

She tried to sugarcoat what happened, but eventually, she still needed to face the truth.

Escaping was only a temporary excuse, not a permanent reason.

The two shared a moment of understanding, and Harper suggested, "You eat first, I'll go out and let him in."

Nodding, Annie resumed her meal, though her thoughts lingered in a melancholy place.

Outside the room, Harper encountered Larry as he exited the elevator. His arrival was evident from the weariness etched on his face.

Without delay, Larry inquired anxiously, "How is she?"

Harper didn't answer, but Harper's response was stern, "Larry, if you continue to hold people illegally, I will hold you accountable, no matter the cost."

Larry nodded. "I understand. I will never do such things again."

Harper responded calmly, her words carrying a hint of accusation, "Are you genuinely concerned, or are you planning to make an excuse for Larry?"

"Harper, I will not sugarcoat what he has done," Benjamin countered, "I understand you're upset that I didn't agree to persuade Larry earlier. I apologize for letting you worry. But even if we intervene in their situation, do you believe it will truly resolve the underlying issues?"

Acknowledging the complexities of their emotions, Harper thought, "We all know the truth that some issues between relationships can only be solved superficially. But none of us want to see our friends suffer. We all tend to protect people we care about."

Harper responded indifferently, "You don't need to apologize. Annie's safety doesn't concern you. There's nothing wrong with refraining from assisting someone who isn't your responsibility."

Benjamin asked quietly, "Is that your true thought, Harper?"
