Chapter 282 So Desperate

Harper didn't understand what he meant by such a question.

Her brief silence became acquiescence in Benjamin's eyes.

The two stared at each other as he said slowly in a low voice, "Lauren went to the Martin Group to see me about the contract."

Hearing his words, Harper then understood.

She thought, "Is he referring to that day on the phone with me when Curtis said Lauren was looking for him?"

Afterward, since they went back to the Martin Manor and then hired Angie, they never brought it up again. In fact, Harper had forgotten about it.

She looked at Benjamin calmly and smiled, "Benjamin, were you explaining yourself to me?"

Benjamin froze for a moment, reacting to what he was doing.

He looked at Harper and asked, along with her words, "What would you do if I was?"

Harper didn't expect him to admit it outright.

She thought, "If it was before, he would have denied it and told me not to overthink.

But what's wrong with him now?"

Harper looked at him with widened eyes, not knowing how to respond for a moment.

Benjamin asked, "Harper, I'm asking you a question. What would you do if I was explaining it to you?"

Harper looked away in a hurry, then smiled gently, "Benjamin, you don't have to explain. I didn't misunderstand. If you hadn't brought it up, I probably would have forgotten about it."

"Really?"

He narrowed his eyes slightly, his complexion somewhat indifferent, and his expression instantly became somber.

With that, Kimberly rushed out the door.

Watching Kimberly's back as she left, Jack sighed helplessly.

In fact, Jack knew that the Mitchell Group had been relying on the Martin Group to support it all these years, but it was just on the surface. In reality, he had been losing money and owed a lot of money. Now, because the Martin Group was unwilling to cooperate with him, those debts became even more. A number of people had directly approached him to collect the debts, but Jack could not get the money at all.

If the Martin Group had been willing to continue working with him, Jack would have been able to pay the interest on the debt without any problems. But the debt always remained the same, so it didn't solve the problem of practicality at all.

The Mitchell Group's solution to its losses today was either to change its model so that it could produce its products and sell them without a partner or to declare bankruptcy and sell off all of its real estate to pay off its debts and then start a new business from scratch.

Obviously, the latter was not feasible. After all, Jack was long past the age of entrepreneurship.

So that was the reason he was so anxious. But if there was the slightest chance, he wasn't so desperate.

Kimberly found Harper when Harper had just finished a meeting. She had decided to enter the architectural competition.
