Chapter 574 Unspoken Pressure

Harper immediately took action upon having this idea.

Though Frank couldn't sign the legal transfer document in person, his involvement caused quite a stir, and with just a bit of influence, it could be sorted out.

However, there wasn't any rush for now; the competition issue was currently more important.

Despite speaking confidently to Sophia just then, Harper actually lacked confidence. She felt worn out by recent events.

Being pregnant now, her mind didn't seem to work as efficiently as before.

With a serious expression and furrowed brows, she looked at Annie and said, "The competition is about to start, but I feel completely lost. What should I do?"

Annie understood her words and knew where her pressure was coming from.

Annie asked, "Do you want to withdraw? Pushing through isn't a solution; you'd only get more anxious later, which wouldn't be good for you and the baby."

Harper looked worried and replied, "I understand, but Sophia and the others have prepared for so long and are so serious. If I withdrew, what would they do? Wouldn't that be unfair to them?"

"I understand your concerns. How about this? Don't say anything for now. If you still feel out of sorts at the moment of the competition, let them take over. After all, you haven't withdrawn; you're just replacing yourself with another team member. For now, let them forge ahead on their own; you can provide advice, and I'll assist you. Is that okay?"

"Well, I wouldn't pay you."

"Huh, here I am, helping you figure things out, and all you think about is money. Harper, you are so stingy."

Annie shook her head as she spoke.

Without a hint of remorse, Harper pretended to look aggrieved, "There is no other way; I have to earn money for baby. Your goddaughter needed your sympathy. After all, raising a child cost a lot of money these days!"

"Harper, do you have a conscience? Couldn't Benjamin afford to raise a child? Then he could just leave this industry."

Annie was almost ready to punch her.

Harper retorted, "Even with a big family business, shouldn't we be thrifty?"

"He has a sister."

Harper wasn't worried about that, as Benjamin hadn't shown any preference. As for what he really thought, she didn't know. Paul and Lily hadn't specifically asked for a boy either, nor had they mentioned whether the baby was a boy or a girl.

"He has a sister? Why haven't I heard you mention her before?" Annie was surprised; there seemed to be no news about Benjamin's sister before.

Harper explained, "I haven't seen her; I think she'd been abroad, studying finance. I didn't know much about her; maybe she'd been well-protected, so there were fewer rumors."

Annie nodded, curious. "Has Benjamin mentioned whether he preferred a boy or a girl?"

"No."

"I think men probably prefer sons, right? Even though they say they like daughters as if they were lovers from the past life, they tend to favor boys more."

Harper smiled and asked lightly, "Who told you that? Larry?"
