Chapter 9 You Couldn't Possibly Be Pregnant
Harper hadn't eaten much all day. Therefore, once she returned to the Pineview Villa, she asked the kitchen to prepare some spaghetti.
As she looked at the spaghetti and smelled its aroma, which would normally make her stomach growl with hunger, she suddenly felt waves of nausea and the urge to vomit.
Harper thought it was just because she was too hungry. However, just as she was about to take a bite, she couldn't suppress the overwhelming nausea anymore.
She then rushed to the bathroom and retched continuously.
It was an awful sensation, and Harper felt as if her insides were being pulled out.
After a while, she finally felt better. Harper straightened up, only to find herself locking eyes with a pair of deep, intense eyes.
Her eyes widened in shock, and she quickly turned to face Benjamin, asking, "When did you get back?"
Harper wondered, "How come I didn't hear him coming in?"
Benjamin's expression was calm as he fixed his eyes intently on her. "What's wrong with you?"
Harper's expression betrayed a hint of panic, but she tried to sound calm as she replied, "It's nothing."
"Are you sure it's nothing?" He pressed on with a frown.
Harper just smiled, "Of course, what else could it be?"
Her eyes then blinked nervously, but she quickly stopped herself.
Benjamin, of course, noticed it. He narrowed his penetrating eyes as he looked straight into Harper's as if he wanted to peer into her soul.
After a long while, he finally spoke up, "Harper, you're not pregnant, are you?"
Benjamin's choice of words was "you're not pregnant, are you?" instead of "are you pregnant?"
Although there was just a slight difference in wording, it had significant implications.
Curtis Yost was Benjamin's secretary.
Harper shook her head and declined his offer. "No need. I'll go by myself."
Benjamin sighed, "Your health is your own responsibility. Don't fret over other matters. Or shall I accompany you myself?"
She retorted, "Benjamin, I said I'll go by myself. We're getting a divorce anyway. Do you really think I should keep relying on you? Are you sure Ms. Davis won't mind?"
Benjamin fell silent at her words. His brows furrowed even tighter, and his distinguished face was as cold as ice without a trace of warmth.
Harper warned herself inwardly, "Do you see clearly now? He has no feelings or affection for you. You mean nothing to him. His only concern is Lauren."
Benjamin's silence led her to a moment of self-mockery.
Shortly after, the atmosphere quieted down as well. After a while, he finally asked with a slight frown, "Did you told the Mitchell family about our divorce?"
