Daniel quietly asked me about my settlement with the Parkers, worried if I'd been threatened. 

I shook my head.

"We're colleagues, after all. I didn't want to make things too messy..." 

Daniel sighed.

"You're too soft. You let people walk all over you."

"With Daniel around, who would dare bully me?" 

I looked at him with a hint of vulnerability in my eyes, like a wounded little rabbit. 

He paused, his ears turning slightly red, then quickly changed the subject.

"How's she been lately?" 

I smiled.

"Ethan said he's been busy helping his brother pack, so he doesn't have time to handle the team-building event..." 

The creative planning department held quarterly team-building events to boost morale, something Ashley usually took charge of. 

This time, she'd passed it off. 

As if a Parker heiress needed to personally pack luggage. 

It was just her way of showing Daniel her displeasure with me.

"Daniel, Ethan and his brother are really close."

"Why not let them spend some more time together?"

"I'll handle the team retreat."
