Chapter 13 

Lottie’s POV 

“Anna I already f**king told you that I couldn’t pick you up from the mall! I’m at the gym! Do you ever listen?!” Jace grumbles immediately down the phone as he picks up Anna’s call… 

We currently had him on loud speaker, just loud enough for us both to listen in on the conversation, as we remained on the bench in the 

mall… 

Anna bites back a laugh, as she eyes me quickly before speaking up- 

“Jace would you chill out a second? It’s not about that! I need you to help us out with something else…” Anna opens up the conversation, as I remain silent and intrigued to find out what he would think of our plan. 

This all felt so silly/yet so fun! 

“Will there ever be a day that you just leave me alone?!” He huffs, as we hear the background noise of what sounds like a punch bag rattling on a chain…. 

Anna rolls her eyes at him, before sucking in a breath in order to continue- 

“Jace just listen to me ok?! We have cheer tryouts tomorrow… but I seriously doubt that Brianna is going to let us on the team…” She trails off, as we hear mumbling of people speaking in the background on his end… 

“So f**k?” He comments back, as Anna glares down at the phone – displeased with his blunt response. 

“What do you mean ‘so f**k‘? Well if I don’t make the team… you’ll be stuck with me for another school year because I’ll be bored with nothing else to do every damn day! I’ll have to just follow you around and annoy you for some entertainment!” Anna argues back, as he huffs at her down the line. 

“Will you just hurry up and cut to the damn point? I’m busy training!” He snaps back, as I hold back my laugh at their cousinly argument. 

“I need you to seduce Brianna!” Anna suddenly states, causing us both to cackle after the sentence leaves her lips. 

Did she seriously just say that?! 

“F**k off…the both of you!” He rages back at us, as I immediately stop laughing due to his intense tone… 

He will for sure think that I’m annoying now… he will probably hate me… what if he decides to turn on me…? 

After all I was only still getting to know them… they could change their attitude towards me at any moment… they still haven’t sussed me out yet! 

“I’m serious Jace! We need you to at least flirt with her… just put in a good word for us both to get us on the team… then I’ll be out of your hair for good!” Anna explains, as silence falls on his end – signifying that he was thinking on the plan… 

“Do you honestly think that I believe you? You’re telling me that if I help get you on the team, you’ll just leave me alone?!” Jace responds, as more punching is heard in the background again. 

“Name your price?! I’ll do anything if you just do this for me! Stop being an ass!” Anna groans at his stubbornness, as I lean in awaiting his next response. 

The line grows quiet, as we both eye one another – listening to nothing other than the commotion of the gym… 

“Fine! You’ll cover for me to my Mom whenever I need you to… No more sticking me in for shit! I need her off my back sometimes.” He states his terms, as my eyes widen at his sudden agreement with the plan. 

“Yes of course! Does that mean we have a deal?! Aunt Rinna won’t suspect any of your illegal involvements from now on!” Anna snorts, as I cover my mouth to hold in my laugh. 

She was always so funny… 

“I’m serious Anna! You better cover whenever I need it!” Jace argues, as she nods (despite him being unable to see her). 

“Yeah ok… deal!” Anna confirms, as we both do a little happy dance in accomplishment. 

“Is that all? Can you get off the damn line now and let me get back to work?!” He complains, as Anna’s head tilts back as she laughs out loudly. 

“Work?! Are you seriously calling going to the gym and hitting a bag a couple of times – work? Get over yourself!” She mocks him with a snort, as he groans irritatedly. 

“F**k off or I won’t help you at all how does that sound?!” He rages back, as I playfully nudge her to stop mocking him – not wanting him to back out of our plan. 

“Yeah, yeah! Well I’ll need you to start either tonight or tomorrow morning! Give her a message on Instagram or something and make it look real Jace! I know it’s a lot to ask for Brianna…” Anna warns him of the plan and laughs at the end. 

“I really don’t need your advice on how to flirt Anna! I’ve been laid more times than you’ll probably ever be in your life so save the pep talks!” Jace suddenly insults her, as she gasps dramatically clutching at her heart. 

“Don’t be f**king disgusting you absolute pig! The last thing I want to hear about is how many diseases you’ve caught over the years!” Anna complains, as I giggle at them both again. 

Their arguments were always so comical it was hard to remain quiet listening to them… 

“Get off the line already!” He shouts, as she only laughs back – totally unfazed. 

“Sure! Enjoy flirting with B!” Anna sings back at him, glancing at me with sheer amusement plastered across her face. 

“Bye!” He states bluntly, and with that cuts her off. 

“We did it!” Anna stands from the bench in a sudden rush of excitement. 

“She better let us on the team after all of that I swear!” I state, not understanding why I was now so invested in all of this, especially since I wasn’t even the one who wanted to do cheer in the first place. 

It just felt nice to have something so unimportant to worry and stress over… something normal for once. 

“I know right?! Let’s go home and I’ll teach you some of the basic routines for tomorrow!” Anna states as we begin walking towards the 

exit. 

The whole idea of doing cheer sounded sorta fun… but I wasn’t sure of how it would go down having to wear the tiny uniforms at the games and the competitions… 

Ijust overcome that hurdle when it gets here I suppose… I can’t just hide forever!
