Julian returned to the Ziegler residence the next morning and told dam about his plans, which stunned the latter.

Liam put down his teacup and said, “Julian, I’ve always felt that you still stood a chance with Willow, but it’ll be hard to say whether that will be the same if you go on this trip with Alicia. Just he thought of this will make Willow uncomfortable—how can she still accept you in the future? Have you thought this through?”

Julian was silent for a long time before he smiled bitterly. “You knw what, Dad? I once desperately wanted a child. I figured an adorable child would make Willow change her mind and come back to me; I thought she would give me a chance to make things up to her.

“Yet the heavens aren’t even willing to help me with that. There’s no hope between Willow and me now. I might as well help Alicia fulfill her final wish.”

Liam knew Alicia wasn’t far from death. He sighed and said, “Go ahead with it if you’ve thought things through and won’t regret

this.”

Julian wanted to say something else, but Liam waved a hand and let the living room. He walked past two rows of birch trees to reach the study Dominic used in life. After silently paying his respects, he sat cross–legged on the couch and started “chatting” with Dominic.

“Dad, Julian said he wants to travel with Alicia. She’s so sickly now that she’ll definitely die halfway through the trip–his reputation is pretty much done for!

“No matter how capable and handsome he is, no young woman from a proper family would want to marry him, let aloné Willow. I’ve done my best, but it seems Julian and Willow just aren’t meant to be.”

He was genuinely regretful, and his eyes gleamed with a hint of tears.

Just then, Melanie barged into the room, her hair unkempt. “You have to stop Julian, Liam! You can’t let him take Alicia on this trip!”

Liam smiled coldly. “Hasn’t Alicia always been your favorite? Why do you want to stop Julian this time?”

Melanie did indeed like Alicia, but the latter was going to die. She would be nothing but an inkblot on Julian’s sterling reputation!

She needed Liam to think of something to stop this.

Liam smiled bitterly. “What can I do? Julian is the one letting women down one after another. Alicia is full of trouble, yet he just has to get entangled with her.”

Melanie collapsed on the couch, muttering, “Everything would be fine if there were a child in all of this. That would be enough to keep Willow and Julian around; this family wouldn’t be falling apart…”

She started weeping.

Liam let out an exasperated laugh. “You’re only learning to appreciate what you once had now? This isn’t how you acted back

then.”

Melanie sobbed. “I just feel horrible for Julian.”

Still, no matter how bad she felt, she couldn’t stop Julian from preparing to go abroad. However, he wanted to see Willow once more before he left.
