After Julian returned from the chapel, he fell heavily ill, leaving the doctors clueless and powerless to stop it. He didn’t get better until two weeks later.

It was evening, and the sky was bathed in an orange glow. A glistening black limousine slowly drove into Radiance Manor.

After the car was parked, the driver got out and opened the door for Melanie. She had a delicate food container in her hand that held the mushroom soup she had made.

A maid stepped over and said, “Mrs. Ziegler.”

Melanie passed the food container to the maid and asked as she climbed up the stairs. “Is Julian feeling better? Tell Esther to stop sending documents over for the next few days. He has a bad fever, and he’s in no shape to work. Are the shareholders trying to work him to death?”

The maid responded timidly, “Esther is on leave today.”

Melanie felt better after she heard it. The maid knocked on the door for her and tactfully went downstairs, giving Melanie and Julian some space.

Julian was in the lounge, wearing black pants and a gray turtleneck sweater. It might have seemed like comfortable and casual wear, but his face was still pale as he sat on the couch and flipped through the documents.

Melanie was about to nag him, but her gaze unexpectedly turned to the side, and she saw the shoes. Putting down her stuff, she walked over and picked them up. She couldn’t help but gently touch them.

“If only Landon were still with us…” She trailed off before she continued, “It’s almost been 20 days since he and Madam Harper left us. I’ve been having dreams about him every day, and he’d call me ‘Grandma‘ every time.”

Julian poured himself a bowl of soup and had it slowly. After a long time, Melanie put the shoes down and sat next to him. quietly keeping him company.

After a brief moment, she said, “I know you can’t move on from Willow, and I won’t push you to do anything. But you have to look for another wife after a year or so. You’re only 30 years old, and you can’t just remain single forever.”

Julian looked at the bowl of soup and frowned. “I won’t marry anyone again.”

Melanie asked, “What about the Ziegler family’s lineage?“.

He immediately lost his appetite and put down the bowl. Taking a piece of tissue, he wiped his hand and responded, “They’ve still got Dexter. He could give father an heir.”

Melanie stubbornly said, “Maybe you can think about Natalie. She’s a nice lady. Weren’t you once close to her?”

“I don’t have any romantic feelings for her.”

She fell silent for a good while before she said softly, “I know you’re in love with Willow, but she won’t take you back anymore. Actually, I could have accepted her if she were willing to get pregnant with your baby.
