On the day of the surgery, Julian still had yet to return. Dominic was furious and turned up to accompany her, showing how much he cared for her. Tyler, Liam, and Melanie were with him, too. All of them went to the hospital.

Willow didn’t care anymore. All she wanted to do was be with her grandmother. Julian could fend for himself.

Dominic agreed and left the ward, leaving Willow and Grace alone. The warm yellow light illuminated Grace’s hair, making each strand look smoother than ever.

Grace was leaning against the headboard as she held Willow’s hand. After being alive for so many years, she no longer feared death. She just couldn’t bear to leave Willow alone. She was worried that Willow would be lonely, or that people would let her down.

There were tears in Grace’s eyes as she quietly told Willow about her dream the night before. “I saw my father coming to pick me up. He showed up in a white gilded carriage, and it was huge and luxurious. My father looked so young. He didn’t have a single white hair on his head, while I was all old and gray.

“I was so excited to see him. I walked over and called out to him. I wanted to get into the carriage, but he didn’t see me. He just rode the carriage right past me.”

Her voice began to tremble. “Has my father forgotten me because too much time has passed? I’m only alive because I still want to be with you, though, Willow.”

Willow leaned against her and sobbed, “Grandma.”

Grace’s eyes were brimming with tears. With shaky hands, she lovingly caressed Willow’s black hair. “Don’t worry. I’ll be okay. I still have to protect you, after all.”

Willow began to choke up. “You’re right. You’ll be fine.”
