Melanie sneered. “Oh, but your business can be talked about? Liam, do you think I don’t know about your dirty little affair with your secretary? She’s with you 15 hours a day. You might as well just marry her.”
Liam had been dissatisfied with his wife lately, so he blurted out, “I wouldn’t mind!”
Melanie was just about to explode.
Dominic stepped out of the hospital room and shot them both a glare. “You think Willow can’t have kids? Then, why don’t you two have some more yourselves? In over 30 years, you’ve managed to pop out just one–Julian–and you still have the nerve to judge others.”
The couple didn’t dare argue anymore.
The hospital wing was eerie in the dead of night, like a place crawling with ghosts and shadows.
Willow was weak. Every few steps, she had to stop and lean against the wall to catch her breath. Julian reached out to support her, but she snapped at him.
She spat, “Julian, don’t touch me. You’re dirty.”
Julian’s eyes darkened.
He hadn’t slept in almost 48 hours. He had rushed back to Brindley, gotten beaten by Dominic, and was now running on sheer willpower. His body was at its breaking point.
Looking at Willow, he spoke in a pleading tone, “Can we talk about this after Grandma is discharged? Don’t upset her, any further right now.”
Willow let out a fazed laugh. “Upset her? Julian, what more could possibly upset her?”
She stopped looking at him and slowly made her way to the ICU room. Through the glass door, she saw Grace lying there quietly, her silver hair shifting slightly, the wrinkles on her face even deeper than before.
Willow cried.
Leaning against the glass, tears falling, she raised her palm and gently pressed it against the spot closest to Grace. Her voice was hoarse and barely audible. “Grandma… Grandma…”
Love seemed to echo. As if sensing Willow’s presence, Grace slowly opened her eyes. Her lips trembled.
“Willow, you’re here.”
Willow’s tears poured down like rain.
For a while, she cried and laughed at the same time…
Three days later, Grace was transferred to a VIP room.
For the following week, Julian was either at Nebula Group or at the hospital. He stayed by Grace’s side, barely leaving, taking care of her personally.
Willow couldn’t drive him away, so she simply ignored him, treating him like air.
Grace, on the other hand, was calm.
The hospital room was quiet. Grace reclined against the headboard, resting with her eyes closed. Willow sat beside her, peeling apples. Without even realizing it, she had already peeled four, each one perfectly neat.
“I know you hate Julian. But Willow, we aren’t born into this world to love someone, nor are we born to hate someone. We are here to be ourselves. Don’t let hatred control your life. Look ahead.”
After a long pause, Willow came back to her senses. “I know.”
