Julian leaned against the sliding door, lowering his voice as he questioned Willow, “What’s the meaning of this?”

Willow set down the fruit in her hands and asked in return, “What do you mean?”

He stepped closer, leaning against the dark–colored countertop, his sharp and handsome features looking down at her. “I’m talking about Jeffrey! Willow, are you keeping a backup while you look for something better?”

Willow lowered her head and continued arranging the fruit, “Are you the backup?”

Julian was furious.

He grabbed her chin, intending to kiss her, but she bit down hard on the corner of his lips. As they struggled, the stainless steel kitchenware clanged noisily in the kitchen.

After a while, she broke free and fled the kitchen. “Julian, I’m not as filthy as you are.”

Julian followed her out.

The Gibson siblings bad already left. The living room was empty…

Willow stood there for a long moment, looking somewhat melancholic, which made Julian unhappy. “Do you miss them? Since when did you two become so close?”

Maureen had disliked him for a while now.

She carried the prepared cakes over and muttered while working, “Mr. Gibson is a good man. The Gibson family doesn’t seem like the type to fool around. Whoever marries him is bound to be blessed. If you ask me, Mr. Gibson would never abandon his in–laws to go running after some cheap floozies,”

Julian was clearly the one being criticized, but as a wealthy heir, he wouldn’t stoop so low as to argue with a housekeeper.

He turned to look at Willow.

Willow’s expression remained indifferent as she turned and went back to her room.

She was still rejecting him.

Snowy came running over; the little white furball wagging its tail and circling Julian’s long legs, acting spoiled.

He bent down, picked it up, and stroked its head.

Maureen happened to catch sight of this scene and clicked her tongue. “Even a dog, knows loyalty.”

Willow remained expressionless, already thinking about calling Jeffrey later to apologize. Julian had been way out of line.
