Chapter 673 Explanation
Just as I was about to step out, Maddox appeared at the doorway, blocking my path.
“Luna, wait! Where are you going?” he asked, confusion etched across his face.
I clenched my jaw, unwilling to explain.
“Luna, I have Alpha’s orders. He told me to stop you—he’s coming home to talk to you,” he said, his tone firm, obeying his Alpha like the loyal Beta he was.
I let out a bitter laugh. “Tell him to go to hell. I don’t care what he has to say—I’m leaving, and that’s final.”
Maddox exhaled heavily, his expression torn. “Please, Luna,” he pleaded. “Don’t leave without talking to him first.”
I glared at him, my eyes burning with the pain I was barely holding in. “Do you even know what he did to me?” I spat, my voice trembling.
Maddox hesitated before answering. “Luna, I don’t know what you saw or what you think happened,” he admitted, sincerity clear in his voice. “But I do know one thing—Alpha loves you more than anything. He wouldn’t do something like this to you.”
I shook my head, scoffing bitterly. “You expect me to just give him a chance to explain?”
His eyes softened. “Yes. Please, Luna.”
The desperation in his voice made me falter. With an exhausted sigh, I turned back into the room, throwing my bags onto the bed before collapsing onto it.
Tears spilled freely as I buried my face into the pillow, letting the ache in my heart consume me.
“Mom!” Austin’s sweet voice cut through the heaviness in my chest, soothing me like a balm on an open wound.
I quickly wiped my tears before he could see them, but his curious eyes blinked up at me in confusion as he ran to the bed and climbed up beside me.
I pulled him into my arms, holding him close. “It’s nothing, baby boy,” I murmured, forcing a smile. “I was just watching a sad movie, and it made me emotional.”
Austin sighed dramatically. “Oh, Mom!” he groaned, making me giggle at his adorable expression while my eyes were still wet. “Movies aren’t real. You shouldn’t cry over them.”
“Alright, wise one,” I chuckled, kissing his cheek.
Just then, the door opened again. My body tensed the moment Zander stepped inside.
“Dad! You’re back!” Austin’s face lit up with excitement. “How about we go to the laser light show by the lake? It’s been so long since we had a family outing!” he complained, pouting slightly.
I ran my fingers lovingly through his soft hair.
Zander, however, remained serious. “We’ll go another time, Austin,” he said firmly. “Right now, I need to talk to your mom about something important.”
Austin’s face fell with disappointment, and he turned to me with hopeful eyes. My heart squeezed at his expression.
