Chapter 396 I Thought You Intended to Ignore Me Forever
Mia hung out with Maggie all afternoon, and Maggie’s mood finally lifted a bit.
After the upstairs maid finished her tasks and headed downstairs, leaving the upper floor empty, Maggie and Mia whispered to each other, figuring out how to help her escape.
As evening crept in and the sky darkened, they heard the sound of a car pulling into the

yard.
T
gotta go, your big devil is back!”
Mia was nervous and didn’t want to run into Nathael.
That guy seemed mysterious, but he was pretty shady. In this kind of situation, it was best to avoid him if possible.
But as luck would have it, just as Mia reached the bottom of the stairs, she ran into Nathael head–on.
“Mr. Harris, you’re home early today. She greeted with a forced smile, trying to play it cool despite feeling uneasy inside.
Nathael glanced at her and said coldly, “Ms. Garlin, if you don’t want to drag your family into this, you better be clear about what’s doable and what’s not.”
That remark made Mia furious.
They had barely started strategizing, and this guy already seemed to have them figured out.
It made Mia worry even more about Maggie’s chances of escaping,
She smiled, her red lips curving as she replied casually, “Mr. Harris, that’s quite interesting. I’m curious, what exactly do you see Maggie as now that you’re keeping her locked up?”
Nathael pursed his lips, his gaze turning colder as he stared at the woman with long, curly hair before him.
Mia dressed in a sleek black dress that hugged her curves. With one hand resting on the railing, she stood on a platform two steps higher than Nathael with confidence that matched his.
“Mr. Harris, we’re all grown–ups here. If it’s mutual, there’s nothing to fuss about. Don’t take it so seriously.”
Nathael chuckled coldly, his sharp gaze piercing and icy. “Well, you better make sure you’re not picking the wrong opponent!”
Maggie listened to their exchange from upstairs.
Her heart sank deeper with each word. She couldn’t help but feel the situation was getting trickier.
Maggie wasn’t sure if she could escape or not, but with–no other options, she had to give it a shot.
Mia chuckled. “Mr. Harris, take care of yourself.”
After Mia left, the upstairs returned to calm. Apart from the sound of the maid cooking upstairs, there was
Chapter 396 Thought You Intended to Ignore Me Forever
When Nathael went upstairs, he found Maggie sitting on the sofa, the TV on, her head bent as she played with her phone, seemingly oblivious to his presence.
While Maggie kept her eyes on her phone, her cars and attention remained fixed on Nathael,
After a few seconds, Nathael placed a bouquet beside her. Maggie, who had been glancing down, looked up slightly to see the bouquet.
It was a mix of blue and purple flowers, fresh and crisp, with a touch of coolness but still elegant. Some light droplets of water adorned them, adding to their charm.
Maggie stayed put, her eyes still glued to her phone as she mindlessly swiped the screen, playing some random game.
Nathael shrugged off his coat and hung it up before checking on dinner in the kitchen. Then, he turned to Maggie. “I’m going to take a shower. Just let them know if you want anything to eat.”
She remained silent, seemingly oblivious to his words.
His expression was stern, turning pale with anger. His deep–set eyes were brooding and intense.
Nathael suppressed his rage, stood up, and made his way to the bedroom. Meanwhile, Maggie went back to the bedroom and headed straight for the bathroom, intending to shower before calling it a night.
In their past lives, they had discussed breaking up or divorcing many times, so she knew exactly how to get
under his skin.
But in their past lives, there was more hatred between them. In this life, no matter how harsh she tried to be, it seemed like things had to be this way.
Maggie stood in front of the bathroom mirror, taking a look at herself.
Even though nothing had happened yet, she already looked a bit worn out. She wasn’t sure if it was from all the stress or from being messed with by him last night.
Maggie lowered her gaze, forcing herself to snap out of the emotional state.
She was running out of time. She couldn’t stay stuck in this pain and sadness. She needed to get it together. There were still tons of things on her plate.
Shaking off her thoughts, Maggie sighed and turned on the shower, standing under the spray and letting the water wake her up.
Nathael went into the bedroom but didn’t spot her.
He stood by the bathroom door, listening to the water running. It struck him how that simple door seemed to put miles between them.
Nathael stood by the door in silence for a while, listening to the water. His face was like ice.
Eventually, he couldn’t hold back and pushed the door open.
Maggie jumped, her hair all wet and sticking to her head, with water droplets dripping down. She looked surprised, staring at the man before her in a daze.
“What… what do you think you’re doing!” Maggie finally blurted out.
As she spoke, Nathael had already come in, gripping her wrist tightly and pushing her against the wall. He said bitterly, “I thought you were planning to ignore me forever.”
