CHAPTER 90
JESS
Dim light invaded the darkness, swirling around me as I started to wake again. The first thing I noticed was a hazy figure looming above me, a face I recognized through the fog of my thoughts.
Bryan.
His features blended in and out, shifting like shadows playing hide–and–seek. I tried to turn my head away, but my body felt heavy as if weighed down by invisible chains.
A dull throb pulsed at the back of my skull, making it hard to think straight. I think I hit my head…
At least my hands weren’t tied anymore, and I could feel the rough blanket beneath my palms not that it helped. I couldn’t move my left arm, and my right felt heavy and useless anyway.
I mustered all the strength I could find within me and used my good arm to push Bryan away from me as he draped his body over mine. It was useless. He was stronger and bigger, and I felt the tears roll down my cheeks.
“Get away from me,” I managed to rasp, but the words barely escaped my lips before he responded with a chilling chuckle.
His hand traveled over my bare shoulders and up my neck, gripping me a little too tight, air barely making its way to my lungs. I could see the hint of pleasure in his eyes.

CHAPTER M
He leaned in closer, the warmth of his breath brushing against my cheek as his hand caressed my face.
My skin crawled at the contact, and I turned my head, desperate to escape him. But he wasn’t finished. With force, he gripped my jaw, and I turned my head back to him. Then, he pressed his lips. to mine, forcing an unwanted connection.
I could block this out, make myself believe that I wasn’t here and that it wasn’t Bryan, or mentally transport myself somewhere else. SOmehwere I was ahppy.
The pool house… I could force my mind to go there. I conjured up the pool house, imagining every single detail of the pool house. The light, the couch. Ignoring Bryan’s hands on me, undressing me, I forced my mind to believe it was Luke.
“Get the fuck off her!” Someone yelled suddenly, and I snapped my eyes open to see, but it was still blurry. I could swear I heard his voice… Luke’s voice, but I was just imagining him a few seconds ago, and this was probably my head injury kicking in.
weight was gone. I was left gasping, the air cool against my skin, and I blinked to clear my blurred vision.
Gradually, things came into focus, and I realized I couldn’t linger in this haze. I needed to move. Forcing myself up with my good arm, I propped myself up just enough to see chaos unfolding before me.
Two men were on the ground, grappling and wrestling against the walls, their bodies colliding with the dresser. I couldn’t make out their faces, but I didn’t have time to linger on that.
Pushing myself off the bed, I grunted against the pain that laced my body, each movement a battle. Once I was upright, the world swayed around me, a dizzying blur of colors and sounds. A sharp pain shot through my side, and despite my best efforts, I felt myself begin to fall sideways.
No–I couldn’t let this happen. Just as fear gripped my chest, flashing lights flooded the door, blue and red. Panic rocketed through me. Oh no, the man who took me he’s back.
I was about to scream, the sound building in my throat, but before I could let it escape, I dropped to the floor. Expecting the pain as I hit, I braced myself–but it didn’t come. Instead, I felt strong arms wrap around me, catching me before I could fall completely.
These arms were different, gentle. I didn’t try to move; instead, I surrendered, feeling the warmth envelop me. As the world continued to spin, I let go, drifting off once again. Maybe I could go back to the pool house this time.
