Faron shrugged at the shocked look on their faces. "I didn't believe it either, but my mom swore on her life that my dad's been spending a long time alone in his study and refused to explain why. There's also been this special scent coming off him that he's never had before."

"Could it just be work?" Faye asked with a frown. "Your father talks to different officials every day, and most women wear perfume. I've had dinner with your old man and met with him a few times myself. It shouldn't be that strange."

Faron shook his head. "That's what I said too, but my mom completely shut me down. She swears there's something off with my dad."

"F*ck," Wilbur cursed. "Well, there's nothing we can do about that. You shouldn't worry too much about it either. I'm pretty sure your father isn't that kind of man."

It was true that anyone who was able to get to Orin's status definitely had a high level of integrity and values they held themselves to and would never make a mistake like that.

Yet Faron said, "No. I think I should talk to my mom. You never know."

He turned to leave in a hurry after that.

This not only affected his family's relationship but might even play a part in the future of the Campbells. They would be doomed if some bad press came out.

Faron called his mother upon getting into the car.

Her voice was cold as she picked up. "We had a fight. Your dad went out."

The call was cut off after that. Faron stopped the car, lighting up a cigarette and taking a long drag with a frown.

This all happened within just a few days, and Faron could not stay idle about it anymore.

Where was his father, and what was he up to?

Faron did not know the answer to either of those questions, and he knew it was best he did not call. Knowing Orin, a single call might stop Faron from looking into this anymore.

Eventually, he returned to Sealake Island to look for Wilbur, begging him to help find out where his father was.

Wilbur stared at Faron incredulously. "Are you out of your mind? You want to investigate your own father?"

"Like hell I'm going with you," Wilbur glared at him. As if he was going to investigate Orin Campbell, the provincial governor.

Wilbur had nothing against the guy, and Orin had always treated Wilbur with nothing but respect.

Yet after a painstakingly long wheedling from Faron, Wilbur ended up going in with him.

Next to Wilbur, Faye whispered, "Don't say a word even if you see anything. We're going to handle this in private, so we can't make a scene."

Wilbur nodded. A part of the reason he was saying yes was also because he was worried that Faron might react emotionally if he were to see anything.

Following that, all of them drove to the Seecher Hotel.

The place was surrounded by undercover guards.

Wilbur was able to tell at once that these men were here to protect someone important, and all of them were armed.

Both men walked into the hotel successfully, but the entrance to the steakhouse was completely off-limits.
