Wilbur said, "True love might not be a real thing after all. Barney and Annie were too stubborn and believed too strongly that they had made the right choice, but things were never black and white like they believed."
"Mm."
Tears welled up in Tina's eyes. "Yeah, there's no clear right or wrong. Love might just be a temporary feeling that exists for a certain period of time. It'll fade after that."
She got to her feet before Wilbur could respond, pushing the door open and leaving without another word. Wilbur took a deep breath and stared at the ceiling. He did not blame Tina, as long-distance relationships hardly ever worked out. Besides, Tina was a good daughter.
The rain eventually lessened but did not seem to be stopping anytime soon. Wilbur bought a few crates of beer and drank to his heart's content with Demetra.
Demetra downed an entire bottle, his expression twisting as David took over his body to say, "Ah, I haven't drunk like that in a while."
Wilbur clinked his bottle against David's. "Cheers, David. This one's to you."
"Of course, bro. Cheers!"
David gulped the liquor down, and Wilbu did the same. The two of them cracked another bottle open, and Demetra said, "Cheers, Mister Penn. This one's to you."
"F*ck, are you two trying to get me drunk?"
Wilbur clinked bottles with Demetra, chugging the contents of their bottles and tossing them away before opening another bottle.
Demetra said, "Mister Penn, now that the situation with Greensource Corp's been taken care of, I think they won't resurface anymore with Light Valley having a hand in this. You've completed your mission, too. What are your plans now, Mister Penn?"
In fact, Wilbur knew that Tina was most reluctant to leave her mother. There was no way Tina would leave Cametra without her mother even if she did want to go to Dasha with Wilbur.
It might have seemed like she had a choice, but that had never been the case.
"You're a good friend to David and me, Mister Penn. No matter where we are, I'll be sure to help you with anything you need if our paths cross again."
"Me too. I'm glad to have met a good friend like you. Cheers."
Wilbur and Demetra drank until late at night before passing out. Wilbur remained in the attic in the days to come as the clouds continued to rain relentlessly, seemingly to match how Wilbur and Tina were feeling.
