"The hell was that? Why was the log picking up speed by the second?"
The old man frowned as he asked the question. Hagin feigned outrage at once, turning to yell at the guard. "What were you doing? Why'd you adjust the speed of the log all of a sudden?"
"My apologies, sir. I don't know what happened. It was like the log just went out of control."
"Fine, fine. Hurry up and deal with it, we don't want any accidents."
"Yes, sir."
Hagin looked at the old man heading towards him. "I'm so sorry. I didn't expect something like that to happen with the log at all. Thankfully enough, everyone's fine. Congratulations on passing the second checkpoint! Now, come with me. We'll head to the third checkpoint."
Hagin led the way, and the old man turned to Wilbur. "Be careful from here on out, Wilbur. This guy could just increase the difficulty levels in the middle of a challenge. The merfolk are not to be trusted."
"Got it, sir."
The truth was that Wilbur had still been able to see where the spikes on the logs were at level five speed, but everything became a blur once the speed hit level ten.
However, Wilbur was not relying on his senses to detect where the spikes were. Instead, he was using the senses of his dragon aura. Thus, he would have made it across the log with ease even if it was on level twenty speed. This checkpoint was hardly anything to Wilbur at all.
Soon enough, Hagin brought the two men to a mine. This was a crystal mine that the military had dug up inside the base, and the crystals mined would be given to the soldiers to practice with. The crushed crystals would be sent to be worked on, then contributed to the beautiful architecture of the underwater city.
"Come on, let's take a look."
Hagin brought the two men onto the wrestling ring in the crystal mine. The soldiers in the army base were avid fighters, and the commander had thus equipped the base with several wrestling rings.
Two golden crystal clusters sat on a large stone table in the ring then. Hagin said, "The third checkpoint will be crushing crystal clusters. This golden cluster is the strongest crystal there is, and you need to crush it with your own physical strength in ten seconds or the challenge will be considered failed."
The old man said, "Can I take a look at the crystal first?"
"Of course," Hagin replied smugly.
