Wilbur's expression was ashen, with murderous intent bubbling in his chest. If Josie had known that Wilbur would never be able to pass this test, this would have all just been a prank on him. This infuriated Wilbur. Why hadn't Josie just told him the truth in the first place?

Wilbur was ready to kill, and Josie seemed to be able to sense this. "Uh, W-Wilbur… I think there's been a misunderstanding between us. I can tell you, though, that Senior Fremont said his chosen one would be able to pass the test at the right time. I know you're Senior Fremont's chosen one, but I wasn't sure if you came at the right time as mentioned. Think about it, you've defeated Jerome, which already proved your strength, right?"

Wilbur let out a long breath, feeling most of the rage in his chest subsiding along with it. He was shocked for an instant after that. The murderous intent earlier did not seem to have come from his own consciousness. It seemed that the owner of the hundred years of cultivation from the Dragon Soul Essence still had some of their consciousness left in Wilbur.

"My apologies, Mister Jerome."

Wilbur put his thunder cleaver away, but Jerome glowered at him and said, "I refuse to admit defeat. I've never lost, and I never will. Kill me if you must, Wilbur Penn."

"But… you've lost."

"I haven't lost!"

Josie shouted after Jerome, but he was already gone. Wilbur turned to Josie. "I don't know what this counts as, Senior Josie."

"Oh, you've won. You've defeated the guardians of the left and right formation cores. All you have to do is beat the guardian of the formation core in the middle, and you will pass the second test. Alright, then. Keep up the good work."
