Just then, a deafening rumble sounded from behind Wilbur. He turned to see eight cars behind him, and all of them were race cars. Anyone else would have been scared out of their wits at the sight, but Wilbur merely smiled. "I guess they're not even trying to hide it now. Well, let's race, then."
Wilbur continued to accelerate as the van sped ahead. The fleet of race cars chased behind him, following him all the way out of Monsato as they raced through the desert road.
There was hardly anyone on the road. It took less than five minutes for the eight race cars to gain speed and catch up to Wilbur.
Race cars far outclassed regular cars in terms of speed. Moreover, it was a wide road with no barriers separating the lanes. It was physically impossible for Wilbur to lose the fleet of cars.
Soon enough, the first race car rammed into the back of Wilbur's van. Wilbur released his dragon's aura to envelop the entire van, and the front wheels of the race car seemed to slip as it began to slow down. The front of the race car swerved to the side, causing it to spin out of control.
A series of loud collisions could be heard in the background.
…
Everything happened too quickly, and the race car fleet thought that they had this in the bag for sure, only for something like this to happen to the very first one of them. No one had prepared for this, and it was not long before the other race cars crashed into each other.
Within a matter of seconds, the first race car had crashed into the other four cars at the back. They exploded, and the remaining three cars at the back drove around them to continue the chase.
The race car drove up the dune, soaring through the air, and flipped backward from the lack of control before crashing down. Lawton had undone his safety belt to aim his pistol at Wilbur just now, and this collision caused his head to smash right into the windshield.
The windshield shattered, and a shard of glass punctured Lawton's neck, killing him on the spot.
"Lawton!"
Devon shouted at the sight, turning the steering wheel furiously when Vicks' voice rang through his earpiece. "Let me do it, Devon. I'm going to go in front, and you'll push my car forward."
