Wasn't that the car Wilbur had been driving, the one that belonged to the Department of Paranormal Research and Defense?
Ronan turned around. "Are you sure the perp's in this car right here?"
"That's the one, Captain. Look, all the guns he took are right next to it," Burt responded immediately.
Gordo's expression was stern. "I think we should just let the officers storm him, Captain. This man was strong enough to take down several officers. He's extremely dangerous."
"Yeah, Uncle Ronan, just shoot the guy! It's not worth you or anyone here getting hurt." Jonah smirked.
Ronan was able to make out the face of the man smoking in the car right then.
He could tell without a doubt that it was Wilbur. That meant that Ryder was probably in the backseat.
These guys had messed with the Department of Paranormal Research and Defense. Were they out of their minds?
After giving it some thought, Ronan turned to Jonah. "Jonah, tell me the truth. Do you have a personal grudge with the man in the car?"
"No, of course not! I'm just doing what I should do as any law-abiding citizen should and reporting an illegal act I witnessed." Jonah smiled.
Ronan's expression darkened as he turned to look at Gordo and Burt. "You two better fess up on this. I can guarantee you can't afford the consequences that will come out of this."
"Captain, we just received a report and took action like with any other case." Gordo did not know why, but his head captain sounded a bit strange then.
Ronan sighed to himself. It was clear as day exactly what sort of personal grudge Jonah might have with Wilbur.
There was no way Jonah would be bothered to chase after someone as petty as an illegal hunter.
No one was going to tell him the truth, so Ronan was not going to prod any further. This was going to be handled by the book, so if anyone ended up suffering, it would just be their own poor luck.
Ronan coughed once and called out to the car, "Sir, do you mind getting out of your car and talking to me?"
Wilbur shook Ronan's hand, looking around him. "Big crowd you came with."
"It's all a mistake. I didn't know it was you here! Listen up, everyone! Retreat three hundred meters at once. Get no closer than that," Ronan shouted.
The officers were confused but did as they were told. They backed up from Wilbur's car, leaving Gordo and the rest still in shock.
Jonah strode over then, calling out to Ronan. "Uncle Ronan, this man's an illegal hunter who just attacked a whole team of officers and stole their guns! He has to be punished! Just what are you doing?"
"What am I doing? What proof do you have that he was hunting illegally?" Ronan asked sharply.
Jonah immediately responded, "The few of us witnessed it ourselves."
"Is that so? That's fine then. Apologize to Deacon Penn, and we'll consider the matter settled." Ronan looked pointedly at Jonah.
Jonah was completely stunned, staring at Ronan in disbelief.
