The old woman, her son, and her husband were hell-bent on the fact that Wilbur was completely to blame for the accident, demanding that he take full responsibility for it.
Steve piped up as well, "I witnessed it, too. They're all telling the truth. I saw it with my own eyes. He was also driving drunk."
The head of the security officers was named Victor Myre, who looked at Wilbur with a frown. "Were you drinking?"
"Yes, but I wasn't driving," said Wilbur.
Just then, Steve walked up to Victor. He whispered something into the security officer's ear, and both men turned away to have a short chat before returning to the conversation.
Victor said, "You've been found guilty of drunk driving. We're going to run a breathalyzer test on you now."
He took out the device, and Wilbur said coldly, "I wasn't driving. Why the hell should I have to do a test?"
"Your car's unlocked, and a witness saw that you were already in your car. That's considered drunk driving. If you refuse, we're going to have to arrest you for a blood test," said Victor.
Wilbur frowned, looking at Steve. "I hope you've thought this through. There are legal consequences for lying as a witness."
Steve burst out laughing. "Is that supposed to scare me? You're really something else, aren't you?"
Wilbur sighed. The old lady's husband and son were yelling their heads off, demanding that Wilbur be taught a lesson and that he pay them compensation for them to take the old lady to the hospital.
Victor had Wilbur do as told, ordering him to transfer 10,000 dollars to the old woman before settling the drunk driving matter.
Wilbur said nothing, sending the money to the old lady's son.
Upon receiving the money, the young man could hardly contain his glee and began to call for an ambulance.
He knew that his mother had only sprained an ankle, or merely a mild fracture. It would not be too hefty a sum. He was going to make good money out of this. After all, he only made a little over 4,000 dollars a month.
This was a busy street and the incident happened at the entrance of a famous restaurant. Wilbur was certain there were a few cameras around.
The Special Forces had the right to monitor all of the city through those cameras.
The Department of Paranormal Research and Defense, however, was even more powerful. They could gain access to the entire nation's cameras, which would be illegal for anyone else to do.
If Elsa couldn't get the job done, Wilbur could just call his own handler.
Just then, Victor asked Wilbur to do the test again, and Wilbur blew into the tube as instructed.
The breathalyzer flashed red, indicating that Wilbur was well over the standard intoxication limit.
Steve smiled smugly. "Nice job, buddy. You just drove drunk, and for that, you're gonna go to jail. You're gonna get it now."
