Dexter was speechless.
“Don’t push your luck,” he warned through clenched teeth.
Angela ended up going downstairs, even if it was only because everyone else was there.
The moment she showed up, they got to their feet. They were all smiling–they had clearly prepared beforehand.
“Angela, come on over. We have your favorite mango juice,” Clara said, patting the seat next to her.
Angela was about to join Clara, but Dexter pulled her down beside him instead.
Clara smiled sheepishly, and the others pretended not to notice. They quickly started complimenting the food and drinks to lighten the mood.
Angela soon relaxed as well, chatting and laughing with the others. She was in a great mood.
Suddenly, Dexter placed a shrimp ball with wasabi sauce on her plate. It gleamed appetizingly, the kind she’d usually want to eat right away. But it was coming from him, which was a first.
Angela’s expression flickered, and she didn’t pick it up.
The others turned toward her.
“You don’t like it?” Dexter asked. “Then try something else.”
He moved his cutlery toward another dish.
Angela quickly stopped him. “No, don’t. I can pick my own food.”
In all the years they’d been together, he’d never shown this kind of attentiveness. Why had he suddenly changed?
Dexter’s, expression darkened. He lowered his gaze and gave her a warning look, as if to say, “If you embarrass me in front of everyone, I’ll make you pay.‘
“Angela, I’m going to head back,” Clara cut in, standing up. “I want to look up some references.”
One by one, the others followed suit, politely saying their goodbyes.
They weren’t stupid–they had all noticed the awkward tension. If they stayed, Angela might not be able to speak her mind, so it was better to slip away.
Once everyone was gone, Angela showed no hesitation. She scowled. “What are you trying

She couldn’t figure out why he’d been acting so strange lately. She didn’t want to keep guessing what he was up to.
Dexter gazed at her for a moment, then sighed. “I just want us to get along better. We don’t always have to-”
Angela cut him off, waving a hand. “No need. We’re fine just like this. Keeping our distance is better than anything else. Bye.”
With that, she quickly walked away. She didn’t see how his face darkened behind her.
The next morning, Angela slept in until almost 11:00 am. She was woken by her phone ringing it was Finn calling.
“Angela, are you free today? I can show you around,” he said with a laugh.
Angela yawned. “Where are we going? You’re in Montivale too?”
Finn explained that a friend was getting married that night and had invited him.
Angela was hesitant at first but realized she didn’t have much else to do. Since Finn had invited her out, she figured it might be a good chance to relax. Maybe it would spark some inspiration for the competition.
The wedding was happening in the evening, so Finn took her to buy a formal gown. Before it started, she even got her hair and makeup done.
“How do I look?” Angela asked with a smile.
“You look stunning. Maybe too stunning for the bride’s comfort,” Finn teased.
Then, he turned to the luxury boutique’s staff and asked to be styled as well. He selected a champagne–gold outfit that perfectly matched Angela’s dress.
