Angela’s eyes were bloodshot from the fever, and her arms were burning hot.
“Dexter, it’s all your fault. Don’t think I don’t know what you’ve done. You drugged me! Dexter, you despicable man! How could you be so mean? I hate you!”
Angela was so dazed that she could hardly open her eyes. She could only vaguely see figures moving around in front of her. Dexter was right beside her.
A group of doctors and nurses were present, having heard every word of her reprimands directed at him. The atmosphere became awkward for everyone, and a dark expression painted Dexter’s face.
“I apologize, sir. There has been a sudden influx of patients, and all the rooms are currently occupied. You will have to receive the TV here,” stated the nurse politely.
With no other option, they both settled down in the corridor.
Dexter maintained a rigid posture as he sat. Angela tilted her head and rested it on his shoulder as if she were on the verge of collapsing.
Dexter felt an ache in his heart as he gazed at her flushed cheeks. He had never seen her so sick before. She had always been full of energy and life whenever she was around him.
Despite her past grudges against him, she always made an effort to present herself as refined and elegant.
But now, she looked completely disheveled. Her hair was unkempt, her complexion was lackluster, and she only had on pajamas with one of Dexter’s oversized overcoats thrown on top. It was a pitiful sight.
Dexter dialed Julian’s number, but it took a while for him to answer. His voice sounded slightly annoyed when he finally did, as if Dexter had interrupted him in the middle of something.
“What did you do?” Dexter asked coldly.
Julian let out a long sigh that made one question what he was thinking, then grinned. “So, how was it? Worked pretty well, right? Let me tell you, I spent a fortune on this stuff from the black market-”
“It seems you’ve been living too comfortably!” Dexter sneered and hung up the phone.
Angela’s breathing improved slightly after she received two doses of medicine through the IV, but she still couldn’t get comfortable.
She sat up straight, trying to relieve the stiffness in her neck, and then suddenly realized that she was sitting in the hallway with an IV drip.

Dexter leaned back in his seat, his eyes closed as he rested for a moment. When he sensed her rouse from her sleep, he opened his eyes and asked, “Feeling any better? Want something to eat?”
Angela refused to acknowledge him. This was all his fault!
Dexter stood up, his eyes glinting with amusement as he looked down at her. “If you’re not hungry, I won’t bother getting anything for you.”
Angela shot him a fierce glare but remained silent.
His clothes were wrinkled, and it was clear he had stayed up all night. He looked tired, and there was stubble on his chin–a stark contrast to the usually well–groomed Mr. Bamford. The nurse approached Angela and informed her that a bed was now available for her to rest. Angela’s face lit up with joy. Finally, she didn’t have to huddle out in the corridor
anymore.
She spent a full day and night in the hospital, battling an on–and–off fever. The doctor -predicted it would take around a week for her to fully recuperate, so there was no point in
being impatient.
Despite that, she couldn’t help but worry. She was supposed to compete in the competition the following day. How could she not be concerned?
Throughout the day, she continued to drink water in an attempt to flush out the toxins. After downing eight or nine glasses, she started to feel queasy.
Dexter noticed and took the cup from her, saying, “That’s enough. Are you not worried about water toxicity?” Of course, that was an exaggeration.
Angela felt a mixture of anxiety and anger. “The results will be announced tomorrow, and I still have to finish the competition. I can’t afford to mess up now!”
Dexter’s eyes blazed with anger as he glared at her. “Your life is more important than any competition. If you continue to act recklessly, I’ll have to restrain you and prevent you from competing.”
Angela couldn’t hold back her pent–up feelings of frustration any longer.
“This is all because of you and your unreliable friend! Dexter, it feels like I have terrible luck every time I’m around you.
She was so furious that she lashed out and hit him with a pillow. Surprisingly, he didn’t even try to dodge it.
After a long pause, he patiently attempted to convince her. “Alright, just rest today, and I’m sure you’ll feel better by tomorrow afternoon.”

Dexter’s words seemed to finally have some effect, and Angela found the strength to get out of bed the next day.
She requested that the stylist do her makeup in a way that would give her a glowing complexion. At least at first glance, she didn’t look like she was ill
“Angela, are you truly alright?” Clara asked in concern as they sat in the car together.
