"Dexter saved me," Angela said with a serious expression after a brief silence.

"The whole thing had happened suddenly, and no one could have predicted it. But Dexter and I will only hold the person responsible accountable. I believe this has nothing to do with Mia."

"What do you mean by that?" Elena frowned and stared right back at Angela questioningly.

Angela felt an overwhelming sense of disgust. She felt both irritated and incensed.

Right now, Dexter was still inside receiving treatment. Elena was an outsider, yet she had the audacity to nitpick and criticize. Who did she think she was?

"What I mean is that we will investigate and uncover the truth. Until everything is clear, Ms. Carrey, it would be best if you remained silent," Angela said bluntly.

Elena didn't expect to be rightfully put in her place in front of so many people.

Her face darkened with anger as she retorted coldly, "If it hadn't been for you, Dexter wouldn't have gotten hurt today. You really are a—"

"I don't want to argue with you," Angela interrupted while keeping a lid on her anger that was about to burst forth. She stressed each word with force as she stated, "We'll wait for Dexter to come out first. Everything else can wait."

The hospital hallway finally fell silent.

Angela let out a long breath, but her heart was still racing uncontrollably.

After what felt like an eternity, the doctors finally wheeled Dexter out of the emergency room. Two of his ribs were broken, and there was a fracture in his shoulder blade. The doctors said he would need to stay in bed for at least a week and avoid any movement.

"Are there any other injuries or complications besides these?" Angela asked.

The doctor thought for a moment before replying, "No. Just take good care of him."

Angela exhaled in relief. She was wracked with guilt, as she felt terrible knowing that he had to suffer through a lot of pain in the coming days.

"I know." He smiled faintly, his eyes flickering with an emotion that was hard to describe.

The news of Dexter waking up quickly spread. Zayn and Mia were the first to rush in to check on him. Upon seeing that he seemed to be relatively fine, they both felt a little relieved.

One by one, others also came in to visit.

Elena stepped forward and cried, "Dexter, that was far too reckless of you!"

"I'm fine." Dexter remained indifferent, showing no sign of acknowledging her concern.

Elena was taken aback, but she pressed on, "Aren't you going to hold anyone accountable for this?"

Her words implied that it was all Angela's fault.

"I know what to do," Dexter said coolly, his tone distant and unapproachable. He didn't even spare Elena a second glance.
