Chapter 26
Angela took the towel from Donna and wiped herself off haphazardly.
“Don’t poke your nose into others‘ business unnecessarily, Ms. Carrey,” Angela said with a light smile.
When she looked up again, her eyes held a cold, fierce glint. Did they all really think she was a pushover and someone anyone could just trample on without regard?
“It was Mr. Bamford who asked me to take you outside. This way, please.” Erica wore a smug look as she gestured for Angela to step out. Her words sounded polite, but her attitude was utterly provocative.
Angela couldn’t tolerate her any longer. “Donna, please close the door. I have a few things to say to Ms. Carrey.”
Donna wanted to dissuade her but stopped short when Angela gave her a firm look
Erica thought Angela was scared and became even bolder. “What is it? Are you trying to bribe me? Sorry, but my loyalty lies with Mr. Bamford.”
“Don’t misunderstand. I just wanted to teach you a lesson.” Angela slowly walked over to Erica, indifferently eyeing her heels that were about four inches.
Suddenly, her hands shot out to grab Erica’s hair. Forcefully, Angela yanked her toward the bathroom.
Donna screamed, unsure what to do for a moment. She couldn’t believe what she had just seen. Angela had made a move against Dexter’s most trusted secretary. This would only spell trouble.
Donna stammered, “M–Mrs. Bamford… You…”
“Turn on the shower and turn the heat up to maximum!” Angela instructed.
By then, she had pinned Erica to the floor. The latter thrashed against Angela but couldn’t break free.
Donna hesitated, but she sided with Angela in the end. With trembling hands, she turned on the shower. Hot water sprayed out onto Erica
“Ah!” Erica screamed.
Her agonized cries echoed throughout Bamford Estate.
Ten minutes later, Dexter arrived at the scene.
Erica was soaked from head to toe. Her hair was disheveled, and her face was pale. Her hands were red from being scalded, but she wasn’t seriously injured.
Chapter 26
Angela, however, had three bloody scratches on her wrist. They were dory and faing
Donna kept her head down, sneaking glances at the wounds on Angela’s arm. The matted to tend to it but was wary of Dexter’s presence.
“Mr. Bamford, I’ve failed your expectations. I couldn’t get Mrs. Bamford to listen,” Era said, wiping water from her face. Her eyes flashed with resentment.
“What happened?” Dexter asked, frowning deeply. He looked around and said, “Donne, you explain.”
Caught off guard, Donna jolted and nearly collapsed to the floor.
“Well… Um… Ms. Carrey came over boisterously and demanded to take Mrs. Bamford with her. When she saw Mrs. Bamford sleeping, she poured a basin of cold water on the bed.
“Mrs. Bainford woke up in shock. Instead of apologizing, Ms. Carrey further insulted her Mrs. Bamford asked her to leave, but she kept running her mouth. Mrs. Bamford couldn’t take it anymore, so she…”
Donna mostly told the truth, though she did embellish it a little. She was afraid that Deter might really throw Angela out.
“You’re lying!” Erica seethed, glaring at Donna. “Mr. Bamford, it was Mrs. Bamford who was stubborn and uncooperative. She dragged me to the bathroom and scalded me with bot water!”
“So what if I did? I’d gladly tear that foul mouth of yours apart, but you managed to dodge anyway,” Angela said with a dry chuckle, like she couldn’t care less.
If she had to suffer, she wouldn’t let others have it easy either!
