Riley's face went rigid, her eyes locking onto Angela as they slowly reddened.
How could Zayn possibly love her? And how could he ever be willing to marry her?
His heart had long been stolen by Mia, and he only had eyes for her. No matter what Riley did, she couldn't force herself into his heart. Yet, she refused to accept that.
She and Zayn had grown up together. She had loved him so deeply, so desperately, for so long—there was no way she could just stand by and watch another woman take him away.
As such, she had turned to Florence, offering her a deal. If Florence could make Zayn be with her, she was willing to give away at least half of the Zamora family's fortune to him.
And Florence, greedy as she was, was instantly swayed by the offer.
"That is between me and him," Riley spat, unwilling to admit defeat. "Once we're married, we'll be bound to each other as husband and wife. No one will be able to take him from me ever again."
"How foolish can you be? You're really willing to throw away your dignity for a selfish, weak-willed, and irresponsible man?" Angela was beyond frustrated and disappointed in Riley.
Ever since she had pulled herself out of her own hopeless love, she couldn't bear to watch others sink into the same abyss. If she could save even one person, she would try.
Alas, Riley was different from her.
"I don't care!" Riley spat before she turned to Mia. "I don't care if you're pregnant, and I don't care whether Zayn still has feelings for you. I'm warning you—stay away from him, or else—"
"Shut up!" A familiar yet unfamiliar voice suddenly rang out, cold and commanding.
Angela was rather shocked. Why was Zayn here too?
Zayn rushed inside, sweating profusely from how much he had rushed to get there. "Mia, are you okay?"
The concern in his voice didn't seem fake. Angela, however, felt a little worried. Mia had always been soft-hearted. Angela was afraid that just a few sweet words from Zayn might sway her again.
He had been pushed to his breaking point by Florence, Riley, and everyone else who refused to let him be with Mia.
"You… You'll regret this!" With eyes filled with tears, Riley glared at him one last time before turning around and storming out, leaving the others in the large living room.
With a loud thud, Zayn fell to his knees and started slapping himself. In no time, his face was red and swollen.
"Mia, I'm so sorry! I never meant for this to happen. I won't marry that woman. You're the only wife I'll ever have…"
It was almost laughable.
Angela watched him coldly. Even though she could only see Zayn's pathetic, groveling profile, she couldn't help but think that he was rather unreliable.
She was sure that Zayn hadn't always been like this. When had he changed?
