Chapter 60
With the maids and outsiders around, Fiona didn’t want to air any personal issues.
“Are you okay?” Angela asked stiffly.
“I’m fine.” Dexter averted his gaze, his expression cold with a palpable air of rejection.
If he was fine, that was all that mattered. Angela stood quietly, lost in her thoughts. She planned to leave once Fiona was gone.
Her mind drifted to the upcoming design competition. She intended to carve out time tomorrow for a livestream to create a new painting. Her growing fan base held potential, and she was considering expanding into product promotions to boost her career.
Right now, every bit of progress counted if she wanted to reclaim what was rightfully hers.
In the past, she would have been frantic with worry over Dexter. However, things were different now, and so was she.
“What are you standing there for? Didn’t you hear me calling you?” Fiona scolded as she shot Angela a’glare.
Startled, Angela turned and saw Fiona holding a bag. She was still on a video call with someone and seemed to be in a hurry.
“What did you say?” Angela asked.
She now treated Fiona as if she were a demanding boss or an unreasonable client. For the sake of her future freedom, showing a little patience now didn’t matter.
Fiona gave her an irritated look. “I said Dexter needs someone to take care of him. Since you’re off for the next two days, stay home and do your job. As for your work…”
Angela’s heart skipped a beat. She thought Fiona was about to ask her to quit.
After a brief pause, Fiona said, “You’d better prove yourself at work. Otherwise, don’t bother coming back.”
Angela was momentarily taken aback.
Why hadn’t Dexter spoken up? Why hadn’t he sent her away?
“Dexter, I’ll stay and take care of you tonight,” Elena said softly. “If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be hurt like this. I feel responsible.”
Angela’s eyes gleamed as she silently hoped Dexter would agree.
Instead, his tone turned icy. “No need. She’s enough.”
His words and attitude left no room for argument. Elena was stunned for a moment but

quickly grabbed her bag and left.
Meanwhile, Angela felt deflated.

“Angela, I’ll leave Dexter in your care, then. I’ll check on him tomorrow,” Elena said, glancing at Angela with a hint of provocation in her eyes.
“Come early tomorrow, then,” Angela replied without a care.
Elena’s expression darkened, as if she couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
When she finally left, the once–bustling living room fell eerily quiet, with only Angela and Dexter there. The silence felt heavy and oppressive.
Angela hadn’t eaten enough for lunch, and her stomach let out a loud growl.
She glanced at the cookies and cake on the coffee table and swallowed.
Dexter shot her a sharp look and suddenly said, “Don’t get the wrong idea. I’d do the same for anyone else.”
Angela was so focused on the walnut cake that she almost didn’t hear his words, but she quickly realized he was trying to explain himself.
“Mm,” she replied casually, reaching for the cookies.
Dexter let out a cold scoff, his disapproving glare stopping her mid–reach. Angela awkwardly pulled her hand back. Then, her stomach growled even louder.
It was embarrassing.
“Didn’t you have enough at the steakhouse this afternoon?” Dexter asked, glancing at her mockingly.
