Maxwell Zelinsky sighed deeply, a look of sadness and helplessness on his
face. “I have no real feelings for her, and I’m not happy. You are the one I’ve
always held close to my heart, my one true love.”
“Get lost!” Ashton snapped, her fury clear.
“Alright, I’ll go.” Maxwell raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, offering a
bitter smile. “But I really wish we could go hunting one last time, just like we
used to. Remember? It was our favorite game. All our laughter and sweet
memories were left there.”
“You’re not leaving, huh? Fine, I will!” Ashton didn’t want to engage with him
any longer. She turned sharply and made her way toward the venue.
Though she had no desire to speak with him, the memories from years ago
began flooding back into her mind–unbidden flashes of joy, sorrow,
heartbreak, and anger, all swirling inside her. Her eyes welled up with tears..
No matter how much she tried to ignore it, Maxwell had been her first real

boyfriend. Even though he abandoned her for a marriage alliance, she had

Maxwell watched Ashton walk away, a small smirk playing on his lips. The gap
in their age and experience gave him the confidence to know exactly what
Ashton was feeling, even without seeing her expression. He could already
sense the emotional turmoil brewing inside her.
“Otto!”
“Yes, Mr. Zelinsky!” At Maxwell’s call, a small but sharp–looking man appeared
at his side.
“Book a hunting session for this afternoon.”
“How many participants, sir?”
“Three.” Maxwell’s eyes followed Ashton’s fading silhouette, confident and
composed as ever.
“Yes, Mr. Zelinsky,” Otto responded swiftly before vanishing as quickly as he

had appeared. His speed was unmatched, for quicker than even Blake

Inside Capitol Hall, Ashton found a seat like any other ordinary spectator.
However, unlike the others who were eagerly awaiting the speeches and
debates between the presidential candidates, her mind was preoccupied
with finding Emmanuel. But she knew he was working behind the scenes,
protecting Ethan Hale. Even though she was certain he was there, she
couldn’t spot him anywhere.
A wave of disappointment washed over her as Maxwell’s words replayed in
her mind. That heartless man was right–Emmanuel belonged to Mackenzie,
not to her. He never had and never would. She longed to see him, but she
didn’t even have a valid reason to approach him.
At 25, Ashton was past the stage of youthful infatuation, but only two men
had ever truly entered her heart–and both were married. She wanted to
move on, to start a new relationship, but there wasn’t a third option in sight.
Suddenly, she felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness. No parents, no

friends, no job, and no lover. She was adrift, without a clear sense of direction
in her life. While everyone around her at the venue seemed filled with
excitement, Ashton sat quietly in the back, feeling distinctly out of place.
Nathan had come to Capitol Hall with one purpose: to find his master,
Emmanuel. It had been days since Emmanuel arrived in Zovince, and yet he
hadn’t visited the Chapman Estate or even reached out, which irked Nathan.
The Chapman family was the wealthiest in the country and held significant
influence in national elections. Emmanuel, supporting Ethan, should have
come to the Chapman Estate, and Nathan felt slighted.
As Nathan searched for Emmanuel in the hall, he caught sight of a familiar
face sitting toward the back. Assigned by his father to attend the speeches
and debates, Nathan hadn’t brought a date. However, as the notorious
playboy with the most girlfriends in the country, Nathan couldn’t be seen
without a woman by his side. So, he decided to improvise.
“Hey, Ms. Summerton!” Nathan suddenly appeared next to Ashton, pulling out
a thick stack of cash and handing it to the audience member seated beside
her, effectively buying the seat.

“Ouch!” Nathan sat down, frowning as he responded, “You’re not that strong
either! But I’ve been training under Emmanuel, and I might be stronger than
you now.”
“Are you? Want to test that? I could use someone to take my frustrations out
on,” Ashton replied coldly.
“But I don’t have a habit of hitting women,” Nathan lied, knowing he likely still
couldn’t beat Ashton in a fight. He was well aware of her temper and
definitely didn’t want to be her punching bag.
“Coward!” Ashton saw right through his lie. After all, it was a known secret that
Nathan loved to engage in playful scuffles with his girlfriends. His claim of not
hitting women was laughable.
“Ms. Summerton, I’ve got a better idea, something more fun, and that’ll really
test your skills,” Nathan said with sudden enthusiasm. “How about we go
hunting at the Hunter’s Den? Competing with a woman like you could be

Nathan had played all sorts of games with women, but competing in real–life
combat with a strong, skilled woman–especially one as beautiful and
well–built as Ashton–was something he hadn’t experienced before. Even
though Emmanuel hadn’t given him much guidance lately, the training he
received back in Yeringham had helped him develop some internal strength.
Over the past few months, he had also enlisted a personal coach to further
his skills. Nathan was eager to see how far he’d come in actual combat.
“You’re into that kind of game too?” Ashton was taken aback for a moment
before sneering. “I didn’t expect that from someone as fragile as you.”
“Are you afraid to accept my challenge? Nathan shot back, clearly offended
by the insinuation that he was weak. He felt like this was the same disrespect
he got from women like Yuna Tanner. One day, he would make sure they all
saw how strong he really was.
“Fine, let’s go. But if you lose, you’ll have to call me Master!” Ashton responded
