She sneered at herself. The ward was peaceful, with only the sound of tapping on the keyboard. It was Brian's fingers dancing on the keyboard with his eyes fixed on the screen. Within minutes, he had sent out a bunch of directives. If the State Parliament intended to rock the boat, he would not back off. They asked for trouble, and they're going to get it.

Amid these thoughts, Brian's sharp eyes squinted and would have intimidated anyone who saw them. He looked so ruthless that he could destroy the whole world.

Job done, Brian closed the computer and tossed it on the sofa before turning to look at Molly. She looked so small and frail to reassure him she was well. It broke his heart to see her like this.

'Mol, after I sort things out, you will be completely safe. You can then do what you want, whether it's to go back to work or travel around the world. I'll give you whatever you wish, ' he decided in his heart.

His mind was made up. Brian stood and quietly walked towards Molly. Aside from stroking her belly, he also noted something about her that disturbed him. With everyone else, she was poised, except when she was with him.

How was she always able to sense Brian's presence once he stepped in? Molly would act stiffly, yet it still pleased him. After all, she treated him differently, did she not?

Brian smiled to mock himself, then squatted beside Molly. He stroked her head and gently asked, "Are you worried?"

She shook her head then drank the lukewarm milk silently. She was beginning to experience morning sickness, and other early signs of pregnancy had begun to manifest. But as long as Brian was there with her, she would do her best to keep it all a secret.

Once she finished the milk, Brian guided her hand to place the glass back on the table then wiped her mouth gently with a napkin. Slowly, he said, "You are recovering quite well. Dr. He said Elias's medication is excellent. I will always feel lucky to have found Elias back then."

Her lips curled into a smile and she nodded lightly.

Even as she smiled, Brian's words did little to assure her. She was gloomy and anxious. Despite her inability to see, Molly still felt Brian was lying to her. When she had made the request, she was hoping that what was in the letter was untrue. Now, she needed no confirmation. Brian's tone was proof enough.

She became lost in thought. 'Whether I obey you or not, you won't let my family go, will you, Brian? That's what you've always planned to do.'

Seeing Molly immersed in her thoughts, Brian's heart ached for her. He pulled Molly into his arms affectionately. Yes, he could feel her rejection of him, and her being careful around him. It made him pray that Molly would never leave him. 'Please, don't leave me. I need a little more time, to straighten things out. Then I can give you the life you've always wanted. A life with me, caring for you and loving you. A life where you will always have someone and never be alone, ' Brian vowed in his head.
