Millie chuckled...
Suddenly, the door to the storage closet was flung open from the outside, and a man strode in.
As he entered, the lights blazed bright.
"Damn—this woman's tried to off herself, what kind of babysitting is this?!" The manager blasted the two burly men in black, then quickly turned, all bows and scrapes, to the man in charge, "I'm so sorry, Lester, my oversight."
"Get her patched up." The man spoke coolly, "It's a minor wound, she'll live."
"Right away..."
After the bleeding stopped, the manager splashed a cup of ice-cold beer on her face.
Millie slowly came to.
The man walked over, hooked her chin with the tip of his shoe, lifting her face, "Heh, if you really wanted out, you shouldn't have gone for the wrists, but the neck."
Millie, still stunned by the sudden intrusion, shuddered at the sound of his voice!
"You... you..."
Under the light, the man's smile was enigmatic, almost devilish.
"It's you! It is you, isn't it?!" She burst out, disregarding her bleeding wrist, clutching at the man's pant leg.
Millie had never seen the man's face, but she recognized his voice!
The manager's face went pale, ready to push her away, but Aaron just smiled and gestured for him to hold off.
Then he crouched down, face-to-face with Millie.
"Recognize me?"
"It really is you! Murray's dumped me, I called you, why didn't you pick up?! Why can't you help me like you used to?! I've got nothing left, you know?!"
Aaron's smile didn't waver: "First off, I'm under no obligation to keep bailing you out. Secondly, you've completely botched this situation, how am I supposed to help?"
He glanced at Millie's wrist: "You've got the courage to die, but not to live for revenge?"
Revenge?
Yes, she hated Roseanne, hated Murray even more, she wanted revenge!
Aaron said, "I can help you, just like back in the Maldives."
"Why? What's in it for you?"
Mamie was indeed a top-notch foodie.
Less than two months into the semester, she had already scoped out all the best eats around.
Take the sausage rolls in her hand, from the busiest breakfast joint near the school.
Sausage mixed with a hint of cheese, slightly more expensive than others but totally worth it for the taste!
She'd made it just in time because of the long queue.
Roseanne shook her head: "I've eaten, thanks."
"Then I'll dig in..." Mamie started munching quietly, whispering, "I heard Professor Patten got sent abroad for an exchange, and we're getting a substitute teacher for the rest of the term."
"I tried checking the academic system yesterday to see who it might be, and it just said 'TBA'. Just hope it's not Edna, fingers crossed!"
Roseanne: "It shouldn't be."
Mamie was about to say more when a tall figure stepped in, right at the bell, and walked confidently to the front.
"Good morning, Professor Patten has other commitments this term, so I'll be taking over this course. Let me introduce myself, I'm Owen Reynolds."
