Rosie made sure Maddie was comfortable, personally wiped her down, and reminded her to finish her IV before she could think about being discharged.

Before leaving, she pulled Pauline aside.

"I've already talked to the professor. A car will pick you up for the retreat tomorrow. Please take good care of her while you're out there."

Pauline was over the moon. "You're a miracle worker, Rosie! I mean, I've tried talking and persuading with no luck. You're the only one who could make it happen."

"Don't worry, I'll take the best care of the professor!"

"Thank you, Pauline. I really appreciate it."

"It's no trouble, no trouble at all..."

After Rosie left, Pauline entered the room.

"Maddie looked towards the door. "She gone?"

"Yeah, she just left. Made me promise to take good care of you. Rosie really does care."

Maddie nodded. "She's a good kid. It's my fault, getting old, not only failing to secure resources but also making them targets for Edna's schemes."

"Don't say that. Rosie never blamed you. Besides, she's tough, not one to back down easily. If she says she's got it handled, then she does."

"I may have a way to help, but I can't just sit back and do nothing..."

Pauline was taken aback.

Maddie said, "Hand me my phone, I need to make a call."

They'd been to this diner several times, and Rosie was sure she knew the menu by heart.

Corley explained, "It wasn't available before, but it is now."

"Oh?"

"I suggested it to the owner last time we were here. She took the advice and added it on the spot."

Halley gave him a thumbs-up. "Classic Mr. Sullivan. Hey, Rosie, I remember you loved surf and turf as a kid, especially the fried part..."

He stopped mid-sentence, eyes darting between them, suddenly catching on to something.

Corley smiled slightly, "Let's eat and talk."

"Oh!" Halley remembered the main topic. "The construction's complete up to the last floor. We've even picked a day for the topping-off ceremony next Wednesday..."

"That quick?" Rosie was surprised by the progress once again.
