The picture depicted a man hugging Clarissa affectionately.

Later that night, he asked his son, “Neil, do you want your mommy to live here?”

“Of course I do!”

“Then, just call her if you want her to stay with you.”

Neil stared at Damien before asking innocently, “Daddy, are you sure it’s not because you’re too shy to call her?”

“Why would I be shy? Here, use this phone.”

Neil took the phone, looking quite unwilling. He dialed Clarissa’s number; he had memorized it since the time he had called her.

After a while, the beeping tone faded and Clarissa picked up the call.

“Mommy…” Neil said in a soft tone.

At the sound of his voice, Clarissa’s mood immediately soared. “Neil! Is everything okay?”

“Mommy, when will your meeting end?” Neil asked sweetly, tilting his head to the side.

“Tomorrow evening,” Clarissa answered.

“Put him on speaker, Miss Johnson! We wanna hear his cute voice too!” Her students were squealing excitedly in the background.

Clarissa had no choice but to put Neil on speaker.

“What are your plans after your meeting finishes, Mommy?”

“Mommy’s planning on going back to school.” Clarissa’s tone softened when she spoke to Neil.

“So, are you still coming? Didn’t you say you’d stay with me?” Neil’s voice grew smaller. He was clearly unhappy.

“Oh…” Clarissa knew all too well how fragile trust could be. She couldn’t afford, nor did she have the heart, to break Neil’s trust in her.
