He was usually calm and composed. However, right now, he was so emotional that he hugged me. His eyes were even glistening with tears.

Irvin had been keeping a close eye on our lab, so he was the first outside of it to hear about our success. When he did, he was even more excited than I was.

Now that I had completed my research, he was happy because he could resume helping me regain my memories through hypnosis. But more than that, Irvin was also genuinely thrilled about my achievement.

“I’m sorry, Emi. I had been too selfish before. You were such an outstanding person, yet I had made you give up on your studies for me. I had even doubted your character. I really am terrible for loving you too selfishly,” Irvin said.

It seemed he was starting to understand how to love someone properly.

“Please give me another chance. I will make you the happiest person in the world, Emi!” he pleaded.

Irvin knew what he had to do to show he truly loved me. He had to let me go and allow me to be happy. But at the same time, he felt no one could love me more than he did. So, he also believed I wouldn’t be happy with anyone else except him.

Irvin knew he had wronged me and was determined to spend the rest of his life making me happy. Thus, he wanted me to regain my memories no matter what so we could be together again. As such, he couldn’t wait for me to go along with hypnosis therapy to do so.

Thus, he was overjoyed when I told him to wait until after the celebration dinner. I felt a twinge of reluctance when I saw the childlike grin on his face.

Truthfully, I never actually intended to go through with the hypnosis to recover my memories. In fact, I had found a master hypnotist and was planning on counter–hypnotizing Irvin instead. I wanted to make him forget his love for me.
