William frowned at Grace’s idea. He was intrinsically against doing something like that to me.

However, Grace added, “I experienced pregnancy complications because I had saved your life, Mr. Ashford. I had to lie in a hospital bed for more than a month before I was strong enough to move.

“I’m not asking you to do anything except stay out of it–please don’t interfere with my plans to deal with Emilia Quill. Rest assured, I won’t harm her.”

William studied her quietly as he mulled over her words. He had fell conflicted when she brought up her miscarriage.

He was still semiconscious when he had been rescued from the sea Thus, he could feel how much effort it had taken for his rescuer to get him back to shore.

William was a ruthless and disloyal person by nature. Despite this, he had been unexpectedly moved by his rescuer’s strenuous efforts to save him.

This was especially so when she had performed CPR on him, and her warmth and scent had enveloped him. So much so that William had even wanted to pursue her romantically once he had recovered, regardless of her looks.

He had never planned to marry. Yet, he even considered doing so with her if things worked out between them.

However, he hadn’t anticipated that his rescuer was a pregnant woman. And not just any woman, but one who was calculating and manipulative despite her beautiful appearance and kind act toward him.

William couldn’t associate Grace with someone who would desperately try to save a stranger. Thus, he had investigated the matter, but it only confirmed she was his rescuer.

That was why he believed his gratefulness had been a mistake–one that resulted from him being disoriented and dazed from nearly drowning.

William didn’t want any further involvement with Grace following that. That being said, she had paid a price to save him. It was also the only time he had felt warmth and kindness in his unendingly dark life. So, in the end, he decided he would repay Grace

Thus, William agreed to her request. He would keep his word so long as no harm came to me.

Grace was relieved to hear that and raised her glass in a toast. However, not only had William not touched his drink, but he also stood up and immediately left.

Mr. Holland and the Quantov University professor were long–time friends. Over dinner, they became increasingly engrossed in their conversation. Then, they continued talking late into the night, with neither willing to end it.

Thus, I walked to the hotel across from the restaurant and booked each of them a room. I wanted to allow them to talk to their heart’s content.

As I stepped out of the hotel afterward, I saw William leaning against my car door. His gaze was dangerously alluring.

“How about a drink?” he asked.

Under the dim streetlight, he looked noble, beautiful, and captivating, which made it hard to refuse him. However…

“No, thank you,” I replied. “I should turn in for the night.”

It was already quite late. Plus, I didn’t want to grab a drink with him. I was worried he had purposely waited for me because he wanted to talk me into dating Noah again.

As if reading my mind, William chuckled and said, “Relax. I’m not here to talk you into dating Noah.”

I stared warily at him but ultimately agreed when I thought about how much he had helped me before.
